Well they didn't tell everyone did they Mav!

This is obviously a new pamphlet as I did not get it with my books. My point is that you should be able to drive up to any servo and fill up, as I have done for the past 30 years and not expect to have any problems. This is just not the case with the D4D, it is like playing Russian Roulette you never know which fill up will kill it.

I picked up my D4D Tuesday night and also have the same pamphlet....repeatedly it warns you to "see your Toyota dealer immediately" with any warnings.

I hope Toyota are going to fit that New "secondary filter" to my truck at its 10,000km service in Cairns :?: .
And as for saving fuel samples without conducting tests on those samples I can write a book on that subject as I used to teach it.

It appears to me, for the time being, that the safest bet is to buy Diesel from the same servo every single time and keep about 3 months of receipts at any one time.

Might even have to start keeping a fuel sample in a jar, from the last 3 fill ups as well, just in case.

What a pain in the a$$.

I reckon I'll start saving samples from Servo fills. Will need to fill up for the first time tomorrow. Does anyone have the clues on what would be a good container to keep a sample in and how much should I collect for each Sample???

I'm starting to feel a bit happier that I may have to wait another 8 mths for our new D4D Grande. Maybe the problem will be fixed by the time production commences!

Looks like that pamphlette thingo might BE the fix - although I can't find one in my folder of stuff the dealer gave me with my car when I picked it up this week.

Hi all,
Lab suppliers and chemical testing companies carry 500ml to 1 litre plastic sample containers, but you will need to carry a clean funnel and gloves, rags etc. to dispense the distillate.

The containers are not expensive and I would buy a couple, do not use the containers for storage of any other fluids.

If you must store the samples, keep them in a cool and dark area, not in a house if all possible.

Be very careful when dispensing samples using a Truck filling hand-piece, as the trigger only takes a slight movement to get a fairly heavy flow from the hand-piece nozzle.

The Service station proprietors are going to just love this, if all D4D owners start taking fuel samples from their pumps, but at the price they are charging and the poor quality of the distillate in some cases why not.

I prefer to use a glass container for a field test as you can readily see poor quality fuel as it has a cloudy appearance, not clear and bright as a good distillate should look. But I would not condone using a glass container as spotting crook fuel takes a fair bit of practice.

Finally, I see the only advantage of holding fuel samples in conjunction with fuel receipts is to maybe expedite any contamination claims, I will only be holding fuel receipts as sample accuracy due to dispensing methods can can be easily contested.
There may also be some OH&S issues as much as I hate having anything to do with that acronym.

I have a Caltex fuel card (work supplied) and use the same servo every fill. I am going to keep all my receipts as well. The servo actually sells a lot of diesel as there are always trucks and heavy machinery filling up. So hopefully they turn it over often and don't have bad fuel.

I for one am scared Sh**tLe$$ about the D4D and Diesel issue.

I picked up my Prado this week and it has a goldish coloured metal cased fuel filter. The fuel filter in the brochure that was posted yesterday on this site looks like it's black plastic?? I'm wondering if the black canister one is an updated filter and my car has not been fitted with this update???

Did the other Pradopointers that took delivery over the past few weeks get a black filter or a goldish metal one??

i got one of them brochures as well.........but i can accidently loose it as i didnt have to "sign" for it and during handover - i was never shown anything in the folder.

It really is a joke.....afterall, who reads their book?!?!

i wouldnt say mine had a gold filter but it certainly aint plastic. It would be zinc plated steel. and that's for a Feb-08 build one.

Ten demerit points to Toyota. They are just trying to shift responsibility onto the owner. I wonder what the ACCC would say about this?
May 07 build, silver coloured filter, started to rattle at 30,000Km. I'll be going to the local dealer in the next week or so; wonder what they will say now!
