    Good day Ken,

Remember to keep us posted on the latest here and also on our other forum.

You know my feelings on this issue mate.

    Good luck.

There aren't many of us from newhilux here but this is one of the forum that I regularly go as the Prado has many similarities with our Hilux.

    Cheers

        Hi Pradopoint fellows,

Just my experience to share : I had the noisy D4D in cold mornings at approx 90000kms (don't remember precisely) Noise was gone when engine was operating at normal temp, but every that-winter morning same story ......... !; Clearly diagnosed as injector problems by Toyota service and the 4 injectors were replaced under warranty ; Since then, gone the rattle and today with 135000kms on the ODO still nice running engine. :P

My 2007 D4D has just woke up to the rattle in the last few days. 42000kms old and Cold mornings in Perth and it rattles its head off until the needle picks up to normal operating temps. So its slow and steady through the gears until it warms right up. Very sad day.....

A fitter on my crew said he experienced same sort of thing working on a ford motor years ago, rattled till it got warm. Apparently was a gudgeon pin that worn away, when it warmed up, it expanded, sound went away.... could this be a possible avenue for Toyota to look at... anyone had it diagnosed ?

            Hi Golly,

Don't be too sad. The key really is to have all 4 injectors replaced ........... under warranty of course! ......... and that will be souvenirs to share

                To add to the story
                Mine is a June 07 D4D
Rattle first appeareed just before 20k klm, at dealer service they couldnt hear it
At 30k service they could hear it, car went back a week later for reflash with the drive 1000klm story, this showed marginal improvement but slowly reverted back
Didnt have time to do anything about it at 40k service
50k, car went in night before cold, noise was clear and Mr tojo was asked to come an inspect again, back it went yesterday
Just got a call, injectors are "within specs" BUT Toyota have agreed to swap them out because it is clear from the noise that it is not right

Sooooooo...next week, new injectors for me
This has taken a fair bit more effort than outlined in here, Im not convinced that i am not getting a fix because of the noise i made with the dealer
The dealer has said that they are getting more cases and increasingly difficult to get Tojo to agree, as denso are pushing back on toyota claiming there parts are not the problem, also toyota and Denso still claim it is a fuel issue as the problem is more prevalent on the east coast...guess that explain the problems in Spain, Netherlands and Austra too :?

Well here we go again,1000 klms completed after the reflash and no change still noisy injectors when cold. The car was returned to the dealer last night for a cold start this morning, where the dealer takes a snapshot of the system and sends the details back to Toyota. Now waiting for a reply from Toyota. I hope they finally accept that there is a problem and fix the dam thing

Well, I have joined you all - jumped in the Prado last week, morning temp about 7C, daughter exclaims "whats that terrible noise?". Well, of course I know what it is! Every cold morning now its like a bunch of marbles in a glass jar. At colant temp of about 60C it all goes away. Warmer the morning the less time it takes to dissappear - colder morning the longer it takes. Back to the dealer for me and I hope I dont get fobbed off this time. Anyone in Adelaide who knows a dealer who approaches this issue with some professionalism - a PM would be appreciated.

Last winter mine had the rattle on cold mornings, and come the warmer weather it went away.

Couple of months ago I stayed up the Blue Mountains and sure enough had the rattle back when I started in the morning (it was cold).

Put it in for service couple of weeks later, advised in advance I wanted the rattle attended to. At the debrief at the end of the service was advised that the ECU had been reflashed to fix the rattle.

Since then, even on cold mornings, have not had the rattle.......

So I am hoping all is now well, though from previous posts the good news may not last

On page 37 I said that my dealer detected bad injectors before I did. He organised replacement parts but before they arrived I had to depart on our long-planned 3 month outback trip. I discussed that with him and got his blessing to go as my injectors were "running rich" rather than lean, so unlikely to cause damage.

In the last week of our trip as we came down from the tropical north into cold mornings the old girl sounded as if there were ball bearings on top of the pistons until she warmed up. Horrible sound and I took to warming up to normal temperature before driving.

20k kilometers after the diagnosis we're home again and my dealer replaced the injectors and associated high pressure pipework - sneeked a peek at their paperwork and cost to Tojo was about $2700 in parts alone. Didn't see the labour costs. They also did the re-flash. Anyway, she runs almost like new now. A little noisy on these cold mornings, but slowly getting better - may have something to do with the 1000km "learning curve" after the re-flash.

For those close enough to south west Sydney, the dealer is Clintons Toyota in Narellan. Worth the drive to get the service.

                          Cheers

1,000km learning curve after re-flash - what garbage is this?

All computers have fixed default settings and an amount of variables to cater for different environments such as air intake temp, engine temp, exhaust temp, throttle position which all means that by the time you get home from the dealers the computer has everything well and truly sorted.

The 1,000km line from your Toyota dealer is probably so you'll get out of his face for a week or two so he can deal with the next annoying customer.
