I,ve had my Land Cruiser for 10 weeks (4000kms) and the death rattle has started. Its in Toyota at the moment and they have diagnosed it as a faulty gearbox and are in the middle of replacing under warranty. I have explained several times that the injectors are the issue and even directed them here but they are insistant on gearbox.
I look forward to going to collect and the same problem being there, I`m sure the warranty company will have a fit!

Hey Roo, I thought you were going to buy a magical box that will allow you to code the injectors to the ECM?Dave

Taz, I send you a private message mate.

For those on my side of the planet (Europe), I have been looking at getting the 23670-39025 injectors (new, denso) from dieseljones.co.uk for GBP195/piece - not sure if that includes the new washer. That works out to about US$314/piece.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm quite happy with the current performance so the chip will stay in the box for the time being. It seems like it has a bit more urge from down low thanks to that exhaust, or maybe I've worn the carpet that much that I'm getting more wide open throttle.
Hey Roo, thanks for your wisdom and have a safe and merry christmas.Dave

Hi,
I've been following this thread which has been extremely informative. I would welcome any advice on one of the problems I've got with my 2007 Prado Grande with the D4D motor.
It has a really bad rattle when cold that is much, much worse than when I bought the car new in 2007. In addition it is blowing some black smoke under acceleration but no white smoke on startup even when parked overnight facing downhill. It's done 120,000km and the problems seem to have progressively worsened over the last 10,000km.
From the thread it seems that the rattle could well be due to injectors but I'm not sure about the black smoke and maybe this is due to another issue.

Mine never rattled at all. Rattle, no rattle, black smoke, white smoke, no smoke, whatever makes no difference. Get it checked by somebody with some reputable diesel mechanical knowledge, preferably somebody who is familiar with the issues peculiar to the D4D. You know your car and if it has become nosier then trust your instincts and have it checked before it goes bang full-time as did mine at 73,000km. I was reasonably lucky and had an extended warranty, others have had to shell out big dollars for new engines. New injectors can be had for reasonably low prices but they are only part of the D4D problem if the damage is already done down below with blocked oil pickup and insufficient lube to the pistons.Dave

Hey guys. Well once bitten and all. I had a d4d 120 and it got the rattle and decided to sell it on. I miss my Prado big time and so I'm dipping my toe back in the cesspool that is the issue. Is there any significant improvements yet. Can I buy a 2nd hand Prado with confidence that it can be fixed and fixed properly for minimal cost? Or is if still a hit and miss affair where u know ur going to be up for $2-3k every 100k kms? Would I be better off with the petrol or maybe an older kzj120? I really want to get back in a Prado but not if its going to be costly and stressful like last time. Please help a fellow out

Hi,
Joined recently PP as I was looking for anwsers to my 07 Prado D4D cold start rattle. Have the car in for service today to check the injectors. Early response is all are in spec, but are awaiting feedback from Toyota Australia.
I believe Harro won a courtcase through VCAT. Checked the VCAT database but could not find any detail. Does anyone know any more details or where to look for. Thanks for any help.
