  • Snorkel Blocked by a Bag!!!

This is not the what I wanted to make my first major post about.

At the weekend I got hit with a plastic bag kicked up by a passing truck, it wrapped around my snorkel and I think it blocked the intake, only one drain slots at the back remained uncovered. I pulled up immediately and thought I’d got away without any damage. http://www.pradopoint.com/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
But now my ScanGauge turbo boost is reading erratically and reading 3PSI at idle!

Has anyone else been this unlucky?

I did a Techstream Diognostics Monday. There are no fault codes showing, but at idle (859rpm) the MAF reading is a little hi at 13.26 gm/sec and the MAP is 99kPa. The injection vol. has gone up to 15.70 mm3/st. Oh yes, it's a 1KD diesel.

Got to figure out how to post pics of the screen grab, when I get time!!!!!

I've done a search of the forum and can find nothing relevant. If anyone has an suggestions as to what may be going on please throw any ideas my way ? http://www.pradopoint.com/images/smilies/confused.png

did you try disconnecting the battery for 30mins to see if that makes a difference? Did you check the intake to make sure there isnt anything else blocked in there?

    Cheers Joel

this could be based on atmospheric pressure?.. see here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...965#post511965

I had the whole filter box out to check all the pipes and joints down to the turbo, and all was clear. It was one of those thick heavy duty plastic buliders bags, almost as new. I'll try disconnecting the battery.

Up until now the boost pressure has been reading 0 at idle and stable reading upto 11psi under heavy acceleration.

        Thanks for the ideas

Have you tried running it with the snorkel disconnected?
Have you checked the snorkel pipe inside the wheel arch, it may have collapsed in on itself from the restriction and suction.

I read the title and I thought....how did you manage to squeeze your mother in law into the snorkel?

When I had the filter box off I put an inspection camera up the snorkel from both ends, all was good.
Joel, I disconnected the battery and reset everything and then did a techstream cold start test. All the values where good.

The kicker is, the engine feels and looks to be running fine. If I didn’t have the ScanGauge reading I wouldn’t be in this position.

                Too much Tech.
