Hi All,
Well I have just picked up my 2008 GXL Auto D4D from a guy in Sydney and had an Excellent drive back to Townsville.. Really loved it.
My question is that when the engine is idling, it wobbles. At first I thought it was just when it was cold but no.. once I have driven it to work it wobbles still.
I must say that it is not all the time and that is what strikes me as strange.
There are no strange noises at any time.
A friend said to me that it is not uncommon to get a buggered injector on a new car???; although there does not appear to be a missfire at all.
It has 4000 km now and I am wondering what I should do??? :? :? :? :?

Hi thanks for that, although I don't think it is all that serious. Just above idle and I mean 'Just', the motor is as smooth as a babies bum.
I will ask the dealer to look at it though.
Any more help...anyone??????

You will find most 4 cyclinder diesels are rough at idle & shake on the engine mounts, once the engine is reved up over 1200rpm every thing should be smooth, if not there could be a problem

Hi NQ Prado,

The D4D is fitted with Electro Hydraulic Engine mounts, information is fed from the (ECU) Engine Control Unit to the mounts which adjusts the rigidity of the mounts (2ea) depending on Engine RPM.

The Engine will have slight movement at idle RPM. if the engine has jerky or intermittent movements with large 20mm+ (at inter-cooler height) visible lateral displacements across the engine bay, then there could be a fuel system problem eg. an injector/ or fuel pump problem and your dealer will need to conduct tests on the ECM and remedy the problem.

i've noticed mine "wobbles" when the aircon compressor kicks in - It's so bad that I notice it inside the cabin when waiting at the lights in neutral.

Don't worry, it's normal. You want to see the engine shake in the D4D? Just keep tapping the throttle and it jumps all over the place.

Usually, I'm the one chucking the wobbly when it comes time to pay for my service bill :lol: :lol:

An unusual way of describing it but yeah diesel engines are wobbly, I think it has to do with their higher compression. My old Hilux used to give me a fair workout at the lights and cause my rear view mirrors to rattle off line. Ahhhh those were the days............

Wobbly Engine

MY D4D (Aug 07 prod) idles very roughly when cold and sitting stationary in traffic in gear (auto). The fuel system and the engine mounts have been checked and 2 injectors replaced. I understand the problem is now under investigation in Japan. It appears my problem is not an isolated instance.

I am not aware of any investigation reference. I am aware of 2 other diesel Prado's at my tOYOTA dealer here in Adelaide with similar problems (one occurs in reverse). Toyota are not very forthcoming on how wide-sprEad the problem is but from the (very slow) action they have been taking, they appear to accept it is a problem.

Wobbly Motor

Hi, is anyone else experiencing a problem with ?
I first experienced a severe shudder whilst the vehicle is in gear at idle and under brakes 4 months ago and Toyota replaced the engine mounts which fixed the problem, but it has now come back. Toyota tell me that mine is the only case of this that they are aware of! Right!

As noted on 25 June, I had an idling problem however it was eventually fixed by replacing the engine mounts. When the dealer was trying to fix the problem, he swapped the engine mounts and the problem happened in reverse, rather than in forward (interesting hey!). I am aware of one other Prado at the same dealer in Adelaide which had the problem in reverse and the dealer was going to replace the engine mounts in this vehicle once they had fixed mine but I have not heard the outcome.
