Hi all,
I'm a first timer here guys so go easy, I know there has been many D4D failures posted on here, but just wanting feedback of any recent failures pls?
Has anyone recently had their D4D destroy itself? Our much loved 120 D4D has let us down, looks like major meltdown, we are waiting for the 120 to be freighted back home from Central Australia thanks to RACQ (takes two weeks, one week to go before we see it) If heading outback makes sure you have RACQ Ultimate cover, worth every cent! She developed a rattly engine while stationary and then the oil pressure light come on, oil level and fluids were spot on and she never got hot. bugger! We were only at the end of week one of a six week adventure, bugger bugger!! ;-(
We have had the 120 from brand new (build date Dec 2008) and its only done 128,000klms, always had servicing done by Toyota and just had a major 40k service before we left ($1,100) its only done 2,500klms since the major service. I think it might be the old blocked oil pickup scenario, I hope I'm wrong, we will find out when we get it back to our Toyota dealer next week.
I wont accept that 128,000klms is the expected life of a D4D engine, has anyone got any feedback regarding trying to get Toyota to warranty an engine failure outside the warranty period? I think we have a pretty good case, low k's and full Toyota service history. It will be interesting to find out if the major services had valve clearances actually checked and adjusted or just the audible test, also if the injector lines were removed for checking the valve clearances, no mention of any injector seals on any of our service invoices. we did have one injector replaced just outside warranty due to failure, we had to pay half the repair bill, I wanted to replace all 4 but Toyota would not cover half the cost of the other three. So until we get the 120 back we just have to wait and see what the problem is,
Very disappointing, Oh what a feeling,.......
Thanks,
