  • What sensor is that? Under the D4D panel on the intake

    Hi PP,

Under the D4D cover is a sensor hooked to vacuum tube, which is in turn connected to the intake, just before or just after (not sure?) the throttle body.

What is this sensor? what does it do?

    Bonus questions:
what size should the vacuum line be?
what happens if that vacuum line comes off when driving?

Was driving on the weekend, lost power to the point that I couldn't accelerate up minor hills. Pulled over, and all that I could see wrong was that the vacuum tube to that sensor had come off

    Thanks in advance!

looks like the MAP sensor to me, fairly critical to the working on the engine

        Before throttle body. Map sensor.

It Tells the ecu the manifold pressure.

        Whatever size it is.

The ecu won't know what's going on. No boost. Engine light.

It may have been filled with oil & slipped off.
The hose & filter Needs a good clean.
Hopefully oil has not damaged the sensor, should be right.

          Cheers.

Mechanic recently had injectors out and the hose looks new. It had slipped off, and had no filter on it. Not sure if it was like that before my mechanic had the car or if it was put back together in error. The hose was a 4mm vacuum hose that didn't match any of the other hoses in the area (thus i think new). I could easily slip the hose on and back off the MAP sensor which makes me think the hose is too big.

I didn't get an engine warning light, and haven't checked for any fault codes yet.

Can i get a filter from repco/super cheap/ etc, or do i need toyota genuine? Any idea on the part number?

I know that if it was a petrol engine, that a bad MAP sensor could lean out the fuel and cause knocking and potentially kill the engine. Is that the same with diesels? Or is it okay to under fuel, but not good to over fuel diesels?

The vacuum line looks like it's been wrapped over the bracket that should be holding the inline filter, but no filter to be seen.

I've ordered a replacement filter, so will put it back together properly when it arrives on Monday.

                You need this

I suggest you also buy from Toyota the 2 hoses/lines each side of it. This will prevent kinking.

People be very carefull who you let work on your vehicles, many are slowly sending them to the wreckers for you.

Going to do another set of injectors today, I will try & get a pic for you, so u can see how it goes.

Should one clean the MAP sensor? or just the filter? Read on other forums not to touch the MAP sensor and just to clean the filter.

Does it matter which way around that filter goes? Just realized that I may have put mine in backwards after cleaning it yesterday. Seems to drive okay.
