I was going to purchase the plug-in TTE box but I have seen that the original manufacturer is now selling them at a much better price!

I finally got around to getting a Dtronic fitted to my 2006 TD before X'mas. What I have found to date is that the vehicle is a lot more forgiving to drive. Before it would bog down going around a couple of corners near home if I left it in third, but now it just powers through.

Also, I threw my ARB rack back on to go up to Koombooloombla and on the last tank I got just over 12L/100 whereas previously I was getting high 13's with the roof rack on. Haven't had a chance to do a long run with the camper on so will report back when I have done so, which was my motivation for getting the Dtronic fitted in the first place.

        Cheers,

          Hi Guys,

I fitted a Tunit chip to my D4D on Tuesday, wow what a difference in power, feels more like a V6 comadore than a diesel, the auto trany is much more resonsive & the amazing result of this extra power is the fuel saving, I have been complaining to Toyota about my high fuel consumption & as usual they cant find anything wrong, I was using around 12.5 - 13 litres per hundred k's, since fitting the chip the scan gauge is reading around 10.5 per hundred k's around town, who says you cant have your cake & eat it to.

When I get the time, I will get it dynoed & will be able to fine tune it for max power & keep the exhaust temps under control at the moment it is set on position number 7

                Power Chip

I fitted a safari dtronic power chip over the weekend and (well 1hr of it) and I noticed the power improvement straight away I think it was $1000.00 well spent. Definately more power off the mark, I will know in the next week or too if it makes any difference to the economy ???. Just wish I could hook up a scangauge 11 But being a 2003 I can't

                  tunit

I just bought tunit chip but have problems installing it myself. I can not locate the the sixway connector in the engine bay where I should connect the tunit. I took the plactic cover but there is nothing there...any ideas?

                    Hi Tad,

The connection you need is on the left side of the engine, on the very front of the fuel rail, just behind the timing cover, the fuel rail is underneath the the intake manifold. The plug can be a bugger to remove as it has a oring seal, I needed to use a screw driver to prize the plug off while pushing down on the lock tab on the plug, Check the photos below for the unit I fitted to my vehicle, If you need photos of where I connected the tunit, let me know & I will take some photos for you.

                    Hope this is a help,

                    Yeti

thanx yetiboy for the pics and quick guidelines, however I still cannot find the connector in my car. Here is the picture you sent me earlier from your TLC 2007

and below is how it looks like in my car....LC4 2003. No connector, no cable, no nothing. I will call tunit local dealer tomorrow and ask about it further...

I will post any findings later in this post....However is someone out there has installed tunit or any other chip in TLC 2003 please let me know...

                        Tad,
What is the model of your engine, my 2007 D4D has a common rail fuel system, this engine was a new model for 2007, the previous version had a different fuel system & my Tunit module would not fit it.

it is 2003 D4D engine, the first one that came out in the new line. I understand it is 163 BHP engine according to the dealer. I looked also at the other side of the rail but it is hard to see any such plugs there and access to that side of the rail is very difficult. According to tunit website this engine suppose to be compatible with tunit chip. However on the manual (which is very bad) it says Toyota Land Cruiser 2005. Any ideas?

Perhaps Tunit have sent me wrong chip for models 2005 and up?
I found those pics on steeinbauer website. Apparently their box connects directly to the rail connectors under all engine covers and so on. I noticed that I have same 3 connectors in my car. Perhaps steinbauer is the way to go for 2003 D4D. Price is comparable with tunit however installation seems to be more complex for steinbauer.... Any thoughts?

Give Tunit a call & ask them what model unit you need for your particlar engine model, dont go off thier web site as it has very little information on the different models of Toyotas, when I rang Tunit in Australia they told me my unit was designed for the latest model Hilux with the updated fuel control system & would be suitable for the new prado with out reprograming

so...what happened is that tunit has sent me wrong chip...doh!
after few calls and emails with their technical department they realized the mistake.
Apparently older models 2003-2004 have the connector located on the other side of the rail, between engine and the body, apparently very difficult to unplug. Also these connectors have 3 wires instead of 6, so differnt chip is required. Eventually I had to return the chip to tunit for replacement.
They promised to throw-in few goodies to cover for the inconvenience. All in all very good tech support and assistance from tunit. Anyway, waiting for the new chip and I hope I will be able to install it (finally).
