    Re: Glow plugs

I had issues with the old Lux and its glow plugs. They were shot, however being the tight a#$* that I am, I did not change them for about 1 year.

On a cold morning, the battery had to work overtime to start the car however it still did it - for a year, until I had to change the flat battery which was under warranty. Worst case scenario was jump starting on a cold morning - never happened.

It was only a problem on a cold morning, and through the day was never a problem, especially when the engine is warm which is really all they do.

I have replaced them and now when I have not moved the car for a week or two rely on them otherwise I would have to charge the battery.

My advise is to leave them until you have to change them and dont buy them now as you may never need them. I have taken that approach with lots of stuff since I now have that many spares I cannot find them and buy a new one again before finding the old one.

Oh by the way the old Lux had 160KM and was over 10 years old. I think they cost about $180 2 years ago and took about 1/2 hour to change. Prado could be different but not by much.
