  • Exhaust System

I have been looking for some time at the D-Chip thingys and spoken/ read to half of Aus about them. It seems that unless you put on a 2.5- 3inch exhaust they don't work as they should. In saying that also one point of view is that by putting on the new exhaust without the chip you get close to the same result. Has anyone done this. In Bris I can get a 2.5 exhaust for $400. Do they increase the noise level at all. Last thing I want is to sound like a Bathurst 500 contender(showing my age there).

I have put a D chip in my prado and it makes a difference in power and torque. I have only had it for a few weeks
Fitting a larger exhaust will also make a difference as well, but just imagine what it will be like if you do both.
I would be interested to here also about exhaust mods on a TD also.
But you have also got to remember that 98% of this user group are amateurs and we are all learning together what these cars can and can't do and what works and doesn't work.
So go forth and explore and experiment.

          Do all - fit
          a. decent exhaust (mandrel bent 2.75")
          b. fit a diesel tuning module
          c. remove the restrictions in the intake system - FREE power

These are some of the things I did about 4 years ago. Car has never driven so good before. BTW no real change in economy despite driving a bit harder (cause ya can).

WHat size exhaust have you fitted to your prado? and where did you get it from?
Also you say about removing the restrictions in the intake system, what are you talking about?

My exhaust is proto-type from ENG-TEK (www.eng-tek.com.au and search for 1KZ-TE in the search box in top right corner). There is just a hint of exhaust tone. Mine was steel (not stainless). Make sue you also get the dump pipe, as thats a huge restriction (its included with the kit too now - was not when I got mine done)

All of the induction prior to the air box needs attention - remove all the sharp bends and restrictions in the plumbing. 120 series are better han 90 series by along way. Ensure the air is free to flow all the way around the filter without restriction, and the whole thing is water tight.
