  • A few questions.. please help

    Hello all

    I have an 05VX T/D auto with a DP chip and just looking for some answers with a few problems.
    For some reason cruising at between 1800-2100rpm it has a small miss & feels like it is surging. It only happens above 80kph and is quite noticable at 110ish. It seems to be worse on cruise control

    The other problem is it is using 15l/100km. I know people that have got the same car that are using 11 and 12 and i thought that the chip was meant to give better economy? It does blow a little bit of black smoke on start up (assume fuel) and does blow a bit over half - 3/4 pedal. I have put an injector cleaner through it and it hasnt seemed to make a difference. It has always been serviced on time and has only done 65k

    Any ideas

        Whats the DP chip set on? On a standard vehicle they should be set on 5.


        If that's ok:

        First step would be to disconnect the DP chip and isolate the problem to the vehicle or chip.

        If the vehicle still has issues check the fault codes in the ECU... if still nothing we'll start looking at possible mechanical causes.

          Yeah the chip is set on 5.. how do you check for fault codes?? or is that something that needs to be done a dealer level? I have only had the car a few months so i am not sure on the history of the car other than the previous owner got it new and was anal with it apparently.

            Is it still under warranty?

            You can check the fault codes yourself. I can't remember which pins you need to jump to activate it so I'll get back to you on that.

            I'd isolate the DP chip first and take it for a test run.

              No its out of warranty now.. have unplugged the chip and taken it for a drive... slow!!! but no smoke at all not even at full pedal going up a steep hill.. also no surge cruising at 2000rpm........ so....... what does this mean??? is it a faulty chip or can you remap the computer to read the chip a bit better, should i put it on 3 or 10?

                Looks like you have found the likely culprit. It's worth putting it back in and playing with the settings, try turning it down a setting or two.. sounds like it's over fueling a bit.

                Also what condition is your air filter in?

                The factory ECU dosen't lend its self to being remapped (hence the need for a piggy back computer in the first place)

                If it still plays up at a lower setting then I'd give DP Chip a call. DP Chips have a 5 year warranty, so they should be able to fix you up.

                  I am going through the same process as you at the moment, I have disconnected my safari dtronics chip and the power is down But there is no black smoke when I put the boot into it, I did contact safari about my chip and the black smoke and they said maybe the injectors need cleaning. I have yet to do that but will see how it goes on fuel without the chip. With the chip it was using around 16ltrs per 100klms. Which is way too much even with a bit of a heavy right foot. I blame the exhaust for the heavy right foot as I love the sound of the beaudesert mandrel bent exhaust. ops: If it is the chip then I will remove it and altogether and be happy with the power and better fuel economy only if its around 11-12ltrs per 100klms. If not I will reconnect the chip and look elsewhere. I have replaced air filter even changed the service station I buy from fuel just in case .

                    Cheers for the input Greg, yeah i thought that the chips were meant to give better economy.. I have a snorkle as well so there is no problem as far as getting air into the engine.. i am doing a 3 week trip from Adelaide to Darwin next month and wanted to sort this out before i went..
                    PLEASE let me know how you get on. Ill call DP tomorrow and see what they have to say about the chip

                    Anyone else with ideas would be appreciated
