  • Coolant Flush

I am planning to change the coolant in the Prado on the weekend as we are heading to the snow on the following weekend (just making sure). Is there a drain on the block somewhere to drain that as well as the radiator? Also is there a bleed valve somewhere that I need to know about or should I just run the engine with the radiator cap off for a while to get rid of the air?
    Thanks in anticipation

    Re: Coolant Flush

8/03 (approx as some earlier Toyota's have it factory filled) onwards Prado's will have Super Long Life Coolant (Fluro Pink) that is initally in for 8 years or 160,000 klms

Has yours done that many klms because if it hasn't the coolant should still be ok for your trip to the snow

    Regards Don

Ours has done 120th km's. I just want to make sure it doesn't freeze while there.

There is a drain on the bottom passenger side of the radiator, although it is often quicker to just remove the bottom hose.

There is also a drain on the passenger side of the engine block to drain it.

After refilling the system, run the engine at 2000rpm for 5-10 minutes (This will open the thermostat) with the cap off the supply/overflow tank to pruge air from the system.

Remember to drain the heater core as well (turn to HOT).

        Manuals take 12.4lts of coolant
        Autos take 12.2lts of coolant

Thanks Mick for you reply, I will have a look tomorrow in the light for the drain on the block, I am keen to get it all out if I am going to the effort of doing it. Could you please discribe where I am looking on the passenger side of the block (front, back) if you can.

It's a stop cock about mid point of the block. I've sent you a PM.
