2008 GXL D4D manual purchased February 2009. I have a problem controlling engine revs in low gear from idle (700 rpm) to around 1150 rpm. The lightest touch of the accelerator from idle results in a surge of revs from 700 to 1150. lightest lift of pressure on accelerator then results in engine revs falling completely back to idle resulting in heavy engine braking. This is very uncomfortable in bumper to bumper traffic or any situation where you need to crawl in low gear such as over a rocky creek bed crossing. I believe this may only be a problem with a manual as the torque converter in the auto can asorb the fluctuations in revs whereas the solid clutch of the manual can't. Is any one else experiencing this problem? Kennymac

Re: Can't control engine revs from idle to 1150 rpm
Diesel engines do have strong engine braking in 1st gear, particularly manuals. I can't see however how the engine revs can instantly drop all the way back to idle by simply taking your foot off the throttle without pushing the clutch in. I think, unless you simply have a very sensitive throttle, you are going to have to learn how to be gentle with the right foot while driving in stop/start traffic.2007 D4D GX Manual, option pack 1, BFG AT's, King Springs, Bilstein Shocks, ARB Deluxe Bar, Cibie Super Oscars, Dual Batteries, Black Widow draws and cargo barrier, ARB alloy roof rack, Firestone air bags.

Re: Can't control engine revs from idle to 1150 rpm
I would agree the throttle is sensitive and takes some getting used to, wearing heavy work boots is a bugger when tired. Also when reversing with caravan or heavy trailer it can be tricky if you lift your foot slightly.

Cheers
