Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
Ours started doing this just last week, however not only does ours screech, it stops working at times (goes warm) so I guess with us it's something more than just the belt.Cheers - Phil Taylor

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
Could be out of gas, thus out of lubricant. Also check the magnetic clutch, which, when on it's way out, makes a heck of a racket. Had to have mine replaced, as well as all the A/c pipes to sort the leak :cry:2005 120 Series LC5 (Grande) D-4D, Safari snorkel, 40mm bodylift, 50mm ToughDog / AirBagMan suspension lift, custom sliders, ASFIR plates, aux power, HowlingMoon RoofTent, FoxWing, ARB Sahara bar, Goldfish 12k winch, BigCountry roof rack, OEM DogGuard, custom 2" receiver, 30mm wheel spacers, Cooper STTs, Kaymar spare-wheel adapter

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
A couple of things to be wary of with A/C's ...
It could be the belt & most probably is,
It could be over pressurised....
& in relation to "Going Warm"...
If the enging temperature exceeds a certain level & its not much on the normal guage but probably a fair bit in real terms, the AC cut out will activate thus cutting power to the AC clutch. In normal 4WD operation the car should not get that hot so perhaps the real issue lies elsewhere.
I did experience this in my Diesel 90 during summer inwhich we had a bug screen across the engine, & we were travelling up a steepish long climb. The auto wanted to use 1st low, I wanted to 2nd low by pushing the 2nd start button.....I now know the computer knows best...
We got to the top Ok & whilst waiting for the next vehicle to come into view we noticed the A/C was not working....because I knew of the possible temperature issue, I checked the temp guage. It wasn't that high but it was perhaps 2 needle widths above normal...i.e. 2 needle widths above any reading i have ever seen with it.
So it can happen 'in normal use', but you have to be pushing really hard.
Of course if there is an issue with the cooling system, it will show a lot easier.

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
How do you tighten/adjust your aircon belt?
My aircon has just started schreeching when I turn it on for about 15 seconds or so.
Cheers

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
Hey corbo i just followed the belt away from the compressor until i found the other pulley it goes around there are 2 bolts one is a locking bolt (undo it a turn) the other is an adjusting bolt so give it a few turns till yoiu tension the belt. I think you tension it so it has only 1cm of give in it then tighten the locking bolt back up.
Its pretty easy to figure out i did it myself the only tool required a socket you can see the bolts pretty easy and i have no mechanical skills what so everDont list all ya mods, you will only be more upset when i get further

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
I wish mone were that easy to fix. Belt was at full tension, so replace it, then noticed that instead of the belt slipping it stopped the pulley from spinning (intermittently) making an equally as bad noise. To solve the problem? Warranty!! Replace the compressor and get it gassed... Booked in for Saturday morning!!Laura & Deano

Re: Air Conditioning Schreech
I recently had the same problem with my aircon (for about 6 months) and assumed that it was the bearing that was squeaking so i just left it.
Yesterday on the way home, i lost the belt (with a horrible noise at the time) and then read this post here, purchased a new belt from Repco for $26 and put it on. Nice and tight. I now have no more squeaks.
