    Well spotted "waifamily"

There may be a slight difference due to a smaller tyre size, slightly lighter weight & smaller fuel capacity.

    Fazza.

As yet no complaints with the now standard Dunlop AT20 tyres.

if it's anything like mine then i'm surprised they could see the car for all the smoke it'd be throwing out when winding it up!

i know if i go ove 2500 revs the car behind cops it... which is handy if theres someone on your tail!

id say my D4D does 0-100kph in 9.2 secs with modifications p-box and taipan exhaust. Note my prado doesnt have the twin tanks.

Had it up to 175kph and still heaps left and was quicker to get their than my previous 2004 VX petrol.

          McBAIN,
A touch of 100% acetone in each tank will more than take care of the smoking problem. I have a 60 litre tank (in 2LTE Hilux Surf) and add about 60-70ml to the tank before filling. As I understand it, acetone is a highly combustible solvent. Theoretically it's effect in a diesel engine is to modify combustion resulting in a "more complete" combustion.

That's the theory. I can tell you that in practise it quietens down the engine quite considerably and exhaust smoke under heavy acceleration is basically eliminated, even in the rear vision mirror at night! Fuel consumption drop by about half a litre per 100km when I drive the car, but there's no improvement when the wife drives it! There IS a tad more power.... but to be honest it's hard to tell if that's the placebo affect. The key is to get the mix ratio right for your size tank. Too much will reverse the benefits, so be sure to use no more than the correct ratio. Plenty more info on the web.

I've been running it for about 50,000km on an engine now with over 200,000km on it. I get the acetone from a paint shop. It's about $30 retail for 4 litres which goes a long way (equates to 0.45c per fill).

Do a Google for "acetone in diesel" if you're interested further. It's all over the web now. If you believe everything you read, truckies have been doing it since the 1960's!

          Cheers,
          Deucer.

have noticed that petrol prado with 5speed auto is 0-100kph = 9.2 sec and 4speed auto petrol prado is 0-100kph = 9.8 sec.

Basically the problem is that you are not burning the fuel properly - the acetone only masks the issue.

May be its because somebody has played with the pump settings, or the pump / injectors are buggered.

Pumping in more air will have the same net effect, but not create any issues with acetone attacking some rubber / plastic parts.

              To get more air in you could;
              a. improve the induction.
              b. imprve the exhaust
              c. increase the boost slightly

more amo for the snorkle and exhaust arguements!

na i actually tried some diesel injector cleaner fuel additive... buggers me what's in it but it's up'd the performance a little, reduced the smoke and made it a touch less thirsty...

Dont bet on a lot (perhaps any) performance due to adding a snorkel,
                  a. the car wont go fast enough to generate more than a fraction of a PSI extra inlet pressure
                  b. any forced air flow via a snorkel will be negated by the turbo maintianing a max boost pressure

Both a performance exhaust and / or diesel tuning module will make a difference. They complement each otther very well - the sum is grater than the individual components.

Make sure you get a dump pipe with the exhaust system - mine was extra at the time but now they are included
