Can you tell if your intake needs a clean by looking down the throttle body?

I pulled off the intercooler the other day, and had a look down the intake and it seemed pretty clean. Haven't done anything about the egr (yet?) and haven't installed a catch can either (yet!)

250,000kms and it seems pretty clean to me. Am I just not looking at the right spot?
