Cranks, won't start

Hey guys, my 08 prado (1kd-ftv) broke down yesterday. I managed to re-start it a few times (cranked for a very long time), let it idle and it would switch off after a minute or 2. Additionally , if i tried to drive it, it would die.

Got it towed home, did some googling and decided that the suction control valve was a likely culprit.

Attempted to clean it, no difference. Bought a new one today , installed that, no difference - actually won't start at all now , no matter how hard i try.

Changed the fuel filter as well.

One thing i have noticed, no matter how much i seem to pump the hand plunger primer, it doesnt seem to go rock hard.

I wonder if anyone can give me some pointers? I have no check engine light on the dash.

Just check you haven't actually run out of fuel in main tank due to a sub-tank to main tank fuel transfer issue i.e. don't just trust the gauge if its showing around 1/2 to 1/4 tank as it could all be in the sub-tank.

Great tip. I put more fuel in it, no change.I actually disconnected the hose from the line going to the tank and ran it into a container of diesel. Hand primer got rock hard but still no start.

I have techstream but no values at the injector readings when cranking - i assume no fuel getting to injectors? Do injector pumps typically fail suddenly like that?

The repair manual for 'No initial combustion (does not start)' indicates that the 5V VC reference signal could be being shorted or there is a fault in the VC circuit in the ECU. This powers a lot of the sensors so you may not get valid readings.

Does the MIL light up when the ignition is turned on and stay on or go off?

Are there any codes being generated?

Have you checked all the fuses?

no code's - checked all fuses and they are ok.
