  • Diesel Fuel Leaking Rear of engine but not from injector fuel lines?

    Hi All, The saga continues with my Prado Diesel, after engine rebuild, injector issues and turbo failure, I now have a light diesel fuel leak which is coming from the top rear of the engine and dripping slowly down the passenger side bell housing. Have removed the intercooler and cannot see any leakage from the fuel injector lines. There is another line that runs next to the rear injector fuel line and disappears down next to the firewall to where and what I am trying to figure out. I suspect that it may be from where the leak is coming from.
    I have not found a straight forward drawing explaining all the items involved in the fuel line and where I think the leak is coming from is of course the least accessible area.
    Any thoughts, tips or am I off for another expensive riide.

    A couple of photos of what you are describing may be helpful to assist locating what your looking at and potential causes of the leak in that area.

      Speculator, but as its not on the high pressure side is it the injector nozzle fuel return line that your looking at?

      This has a banjo bolt that could leak if the washer is missing/damaged or not tightened to specification.

        Yes it is the fuel return line , thanks ptommo59 for the diagram and seemed like the leak was around the area of the banjo bolt. couldnt see how to access that area with any reasonable visbility. Looks like a 14mm bolt but getting onto it with out pulling the top down is abit of a challenge.

          There are a few videos on Youtube that may help with how best to access and torque specs.

          There was another post on here where the dampening bracket on the pipe was not refitted possibly during an injector change and allowed the pipe to vibrate to the point it cracked so may be worth checking yours is in place and tightened as well as the banjo bolt 1KD-FTV fuel rail return line failure - Toyota Prado How To's, Technical Information & Reviews (pradopoint.com.au)

            Ok , looks like there was a bit of a leak from one of the fuel line connection which we nipped up a bit and seems to have stopped the suspected leak. Not totally convinced yet.
            Driving home engine light has come on again with a P0400 code (exhaust gas recirculation flow).
            Any idea what is a regular cause of this code coming up?

                The tip in the third video is the most likely in your case as you have been working on the rear of the engine and could have dislodged one of the vacuum pipes or damaged the control valve that operates the EGR or Bypass Valves. See if you can hear or feel any sucking air around the area you were working in.
