Ok well I'm wondering should I do this to my petrol Prado? Don't laugh!! I'm useless at this stuff and would rather do what I can and save money rather than my mechanic ripping me another one

how to remove 1KZ intercooler and clean throttle body

well finally got round to cleaning mine this eve...it was a mess, thick black gunk all over the shop...changed the plugs whilst i was at it. It was a super easy job. It never ceases to amaze me how easy the prados are to work on. Most cars to do anything more than an oil change you need 3 pairs of hands and a tentacle but the prado comes apart and goes back together so easy!
Anyway took it for a test run up mt cootha and she really pulls now...
only one issue...engine light came on as soon as i started it which probably means i got a bit happy with the carb cleaner...this happen to anyone else? There was no missing/smoke etc and the car runs perfect..actually better than ever! Im thinking maybe its the sensor in the intercooler? Not the turbo pressure one but the other one? Anybody care to shed any light on this? And no i didnt block of the EGR..

I just pulled mine apart which was easier than I thought and gave it a clean out! My cars done 115000 so I suppose it shouldn't be to bad considering its a petrol to but still dirty all the same.
The only question i have is that is revving really high when idling and I'm not sure whether a good run will fix that or not...... I dunno about you guys but i dumped half a can of carby cleaner through the intercooler as well. Maybe im going back to my old days of the '89 Skyline GTR and having the cooler full of crud from the turbo under high boost. Still, i got a lot of the usual crap out of it as well. the cleaner the intercooler internally and externally, the more efficient it should work, the better performance.
My biggest suggestion for tackling this job, DON"T HAVE A HANGOVER! ugh......Ron - 2004 GX 120 Prado 1KZ-TE manual with a forever changing extras list...

Hey guys,
Does anyone have a list of the gasket numbers you should be replacing after completing the clean on the throttle body and manifold? Also to the mechanically minded, should the oil and filter be changed immediately after this is completed? or after driving a few kms?

Intake manifold to head gaskets 4 x 17177-67011. Torque from the centre of the manifold out to the ends 29Nm. Throttle body (Venturi) gasket 26171-67030. Torque the four bolts to 20Nm. The throttle body needs to be cleaned from time to time, check them every 50,000 kms or so. I always use Locktite Carb. cleaner for cleaning the throttle bodies, also good for cleaning the manifold. Any good quality carb. cleaner will do. Be careful not to drop the throttle body as it could damage the motor. I always remove them from the manifold because of dirt etc..You will get better performance and economy with a clean throttle body. Glow plugs should be changed every 100,000 kms with the injectors. For glow plugs I always use JKT CP-22, they are made in Japan. Set of 4, $110.00 trade and go exchange on the injectors.
