Hi there damonat, ""speeds of over 80km/hr, the fan doesn't work anyway"" mate not correct. I have had numerous vehicles running viscous coupling fans and can assure you they will cut in at any speed if required. Ive had my old petrol vitara's fan cut in on 40d day on F3 pulling up some of the hills and had the hilux one cut in many a time on hot days. Sounded like a bloody jet winding up and would roar its nut off then you would hear it starting to quiten down as it was cutting out, all this at speeds well over 80, more like 100/110.......Cheers Steve

#### its located on the drivers side up in a prick of spot and you will need a nice long extension with a swivel end on it to get to the bolts. I took one look at it and thought stuff it so I took down to my mechanic in Blacktown and he removed it for me and I got him to install the new one and it also must be put in spot on at a certain position, if not it wont operate properly. Not like my old lux, three bolts, one paper gasket, pulled out and new one in 10 mins all up, these prado ones MUST BE WITH OUT FAIL installed correctly so they operate as required. Im sure there is some mechanics on here that have replaced or inspected 1KZ thermostats before will back this comment up.......Unless you have the tools and a hoist I would have it done by a mechanic who does, if you sit there and watch them do it you will agree it will be the best 50/100$ you ever spent unless your an extremely extremely patient man lol............Cheers Steve

My gauge sits just under half normally. You can just see the bottom of the thermometer symbol under the needle at operating temps. When I cruise downhill on the highway, the gauge will drop a couple of millimetres but will return to normal quickly on the flat or uphill. A couple of weeks ago when I was towing my boat, I noticed the gauge go above half simply because I was labouring her too much on a long incline. Shifting down and holding a lower speed at around 2500 RPM held the needle steady and after hitting the flat, all went back to normal very quickly.

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is that when you refill the cooling system is to ensure that you avoid an air lock forming in the system. Make sure the heater is on full to get the coolant cycling through there. I found that air in the system made my coolant shoot into the overflow and not return back to the radiator. Completely emptied and refilled carefully and no problems anymore.

I know the 1KZ 'crackathehead insomnia' well. What has been said is true in checking off other things before the head comes off.

I can sit anywhere from just below half to 1mm or so above depends on weather aircon is on and weather i am towing or not
In answer to the origional question yes i did notice the temp guage being a little higher with the arb bar on as the front back plate that comes with the bar is solid instead of vented like the origional bullbar however once again it would be a 1mm movement of the needle
