have a look here, hopefully this will answer your questions viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3107, there is 47 pages info on injectors, and it seems to be the early d4d models thast have problems, toyota did un upgrage on the injectors in the late model d4ds and this seems to have fixed the problem. cheers samo
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.
I think there was a spreadsheet created showing who was having trouble and what their build date was. Not sure what happened to this but I think Chippy created it. Try a pm to him or Mav. As far as I know there was an injector change early 2008, maybe March (?) and as far as I can remember no one with a build date later than that has had a problem. The latest that I know of was Mav whose VX was a Nov 07 build from memory. I know of a couple which had catastrophic failure and these were mid to late 2007. Trouble is that in the scheme of things there are few with injector problems given the number of D4Ds sold which unfortunately includes the soccer mum's that do 5k per year. I think my Dec 07 (delivered mid Jan 08) is using more fuel (anecdotal not necessarily cold hard figures) and is more rattly than when new so I will be taking that up with a different dealer come the 80k service in the next week or so, my current dealer is a bit ho hum about it and not really interested in testing without the overnight cold start test which is pretty much useless at the moment in Brisbane. There has been a lot of speculation about the cause and linking events such as the Kobe earthquake to the 'bad' injectors. I'm not even sure if the Nippon Denso injectors or parts are manufactured in Kobe anwyay. I think fuel quality, specifically water and debris, has a lot to do with it and as such I get my fuel filter changed every service rather than the 40k that is mentioned in the book. Not much you can do other than make sure you have the extended warranty with Toyota if you are concerned. I am and I bought the warranty.
