i find a tennis ball works well on every fuel bowser i have come across, they are flexible enough to allow for any variations in nozzle type and hold the trigger at full flow until it clicks off, haven't been stopped yet at any servo in perth or anywhere else in WA I re-fuel.

I just shove the cap in the handle and just leave my hand sitting on the bowser so they can't tell. Stops the hand from geting sore.

Hey Ballbasher I hope you have a diesel as there's been instances of people doing what you did with a petrol vehicle and blowing up . This happens when the door is opened and you reach in to get something out .The resultant spark of static electricity ignites the fuel vapour . The attendant's doing the right thing mate .

I use the Hiflow diesel pump at our local BP, I can't imagine truckies standing there to fill up their tanks holding the nozzle, therefore the lock mechanism is still on all the pumps :wink: .

Ladies and Gents please,
All this hoo-haa about filling tanks to the brim and locking the bowser on.
Fill it or don’t fill it to the brim I guess that is your personal choice...enough on that.

I always wedge the bowser handle with my fuel cap, and I do it for a few good reasons.
1. slow pumps (the car ones not the truck ones) take ages to fill up a 150-180L tank capacity and I personally have better things to do,
2. Bower handles are supposed to be fitted with a vacuum style shut off that sort of sucks air continuously when in use; this is supposed to trip the handle ‘off’ whenever the fuel level blocks the little breather, and
3. Without a doubt the most annoying part of owning a diesel is the fact that oil companies all assume that we are driving some old crapped out piece of s#@t. They never seem to bother to wash or cleanup where the last maggot spilt 5l of diesel before you. In addition, you get to walk in this and rub it off your shoes into the lovely new carpet floor mats (mats are not an optional extra in the masse-ferguson) and to add insult to injury, you get to have a hand hull of smelly oily diesel as the bowser handles are always filthy.

As a suggestion, the next time the service station gorilla says something about it, ask him or her to kindly take over filling the car. Or do as I have done and report their arrogance or rudeness to their boss, pay for what you have taken and tell them you will go to a service station that cleans their equipment.

1. We pay more for diesel than ULP, FACT
2. We get to traipse dirty smelly diesel into our nice new cars for the privilege of buying fuel at an exorbitant price......WTF

I am yet to see diesel burst into flames on contact with concrete also
