Air cleaner assembly

There is a fine metal gauze panel that sits against the air cleaner element on the "clean" side, in the non-detachable part of the the air box.

Can or should this panel be removed for cleaning?

I looked at mine just yesterday while I was waiting for my MAF sensor to dry after cleaning and wondered the same thing. Mine had a narrow strip through the middle that is pretty black. Was going to see what I could find today, worst case scenario I was going to vac it. First reaction was to give it a hit with the air gun but figured that without taking it out first it would only blow the crap further in.

Will be interested to hear what people recommend on this one too!

I had a look at mine after doing the MAF last week thinking it was dirty but didnt want to pull on it to hard as it could break

You can remove it. It just means taking most of the top of the engine intake tract off. Not a big job if you are mechanically minded. Hit it with a can of electrical contact cleaner and all is sweet.

I was thinking of just leaving it in place and hitting it with a few blasts of MAF-safe throttle body cleaner. Might pull it off if I find a spare hour or so one Saturday.

bout as close to the subject as i can find... easy maintenence tip when admiring your rig .

crack a can and pop the hood...
walk around the front and lift the hood up
air in let tube on the drivers side guard has a water trap hanging off the bottom.
its rotates and lowers for cleaning....

mine was found today all blocked up with dirt and clean in 45 seconds flat.

replace water trap ... look at motor while you drink can of beer...
return inside and tell the missus the car is locked... lol
