    Gday A.J

Quote: They also suggested 200 cpi cats were they better option than 100, i'm not sure why?

Answer: They would have favored towards the 200cpi over the 100cpsi as the 200cpsi leans more towards the euro3 emission laws

EG: Vehicle Emission Standards ADR (Australian Design Rules) up to GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) 3.5T: "Petrol" 02-04 have to comply with euro2... 05 to 06 Euro3... From 06 to 2012 Euro4 From 2013 through to 2016 ALL vehicles will have to comply with Euro5 then the crap will hit the fan from 2016 when Euro6 will be introduced! RTFM! (Read the F-ing Manual).... Boooo! I think by then we will have to run hydrogen cars to comply!!! Lol!...... Electric cars in my books just don't add up????

I have seen retailers claiming that there 100cpsi comply with euro3 emissions but i think 100cpsi could drop below this!.... (I think so!) you would be within Euro3 by running 200cpsi. (Providing that you are not also running a high tuned performing engine).

I don't think your exhaust fitter is doing you any favors on pricing either!... The average price for 1 x cat 100 or 200cpsi (2.5") is about up to 200 to $300 bucks each! Look on eBay and get a few more quotes! (Ring around as cheaper and quicker than driving).

After all the above mentioned i am now guessing that you would be more comfortable with running 200cpsi

I also still think you would save allot more cash by changing just the resonator box (Big muffler in the middle, not the small one at the tail pipe) and both cats at the front (Providing that your 2.5" piping is ok).

If you are tight with cash then see how you go with just the high-flow muffler first..... If want more power and beefier sound splash the cash on the cats later!

I was naughty and got the 100cpsi... I would advise you getting the 200cpsi for peace of mind on the emission laws.

    Cheers

I think this is getting a little too technical regards the cat's.
My experience has been on a standard or slightly modified engine changing to High Flow cats has had no discernable improvement in performance.
On a standard 4.0L V6 I would just change the mufflers/resonators first as I think the standard exhaust is 2.25" or 2.5" in stainless.
A 2.5" exhaust is all you need, forget about all the Euro regs and leave the existing Cats on which already comply with ADR's.
Having had a look at the 4.0L exhaust manifolds they are a pretty average design so a set of Pacemakers would be an improvement. I run Pacemakers into the standard system on my blown 3.4 with the main muffler and resonator replaced.
This improved low and mid range response with a nice burble (until I hit high rpm anyway then it barks )

In short change the mufffer/resonator, leave the exhaust pipe if it is in good condition and see how it goes. Then I would fit a set of Pacmaker extractors if I wanted more performance.

My exhaust is a little different in that I went for a custom twin 2.5" stainless steel setup running off ceramic coated pacemaker headers on the 4.0 v6. It is set to run on 98 octane via a Unichip management system with a switch back to the std ECU when only 96 or lower is available outside capital cities.

Any good exhaust shop would say it is way too big a system on the standard Prado but the intention is to add either a bullet or sprintex supercharger down the track so it was a bit of a compromise.

Power and fuel wise, there's around an extra dyno'ed 20kw & 25nm atw with 100kms less range from the 180ltr. Most of the extra poke really gave back what the additional 250 kgs of aftermarket kit took away so I'm happy with that.

G'day lads, after several months I've finally booked the Prado in for a 2 1/2 inch system from cats back. I'll then do cats and extractors if it needs it. When I booked it in they suggested a new resonator but reckon that it's optional, any advice on wether it's necessary and what the difference will be in a system without the resonator? Cheers A.J

              Hey AJ

I've been toying with this idea for ages so when you get it done some feedback would be good as everyone seems to have different opinions of what's best and what's not...

I'd be really keen to hear your feedback once it's done and like you will have to approve it through the other half lol

If you was to leave the stock 2.5" system on your car and change both cats with a high flow muffler i do beleave (Confidently) that you would be impressed with the performance and the engine note.. You would also be getting the max bang for your buck

Changing the muffler on its own is noticeable.... Changing the cats from 400 to 100 or 200cpsi "would" put a smile on your face as the cats on there own are more noticeable than just a muffler on its own!... together they are harmony.

I see the 2.5" sports system as a rip-off as you are basically only changing the rear muffler for $450 bucks! (@ this point someone will want to attack me for saying that but its true!!) Lol

As far as picking a 100 or the 200cpsi i would pick the 100 as it has a higher flow rate (I did on my diesel) but most people go for the 200cpsi as it is more compliant on the emissions.

If you was to imagine 400 little squares (Cell's) in a square inch then look at 100 squares in a square inch then you can see why the flow rate is much higher on the 100cpsi and they are street legal.

Note: If you ever fit an exhaust your self "Make sure" to use a catalytic converter or lambda probe (Oxygen sensor) "safe" sealer as the wrong silicone based sealer will coat them with a silicone film and stuffs them.... This is only crucial if using a sealer before the cat or lambda probe!

A stainless steel system over a mild steel is a personal choice. (I personally would never buy stainless but that's my choice).

                Cheers
                Hi Skywalkerrun,

I have read this post and did a quick search on Ebay
But can only find one supplier at $574 for a Toyota Prado CAT
Can you give me a hint/URL/... here please

Just picked Prado up, so far very happy! Nice note to exhaust and can definitely feel the difference when I put the foot down. I'll keep u posted on any fuel efficiency improvement. Their advice was to get k&n filter and snorkel next, then only swap front two cats for 100cpsi if fitting pacemaker extractors. I think I'll take their advice as their a good family owned business and pretty switched on! Anyway I'm off to do some driving!!

I serviced mine this weekend and already have a snorkel and put in a k&n filter and I've already noticed the difference in power! It's not a race car by any means but it has made a noticeable difference.

Also how much did it cost you in the end and what exactly did you have done?

G'day mate, had 2 1/2 inch system straight through from cats back, and a high flow resonator put on. Cost me about $450. I've ordered k&n filter and getting car serviced next week, followed by snorkel when I can afford it! I think I'll keep the k&n in for all metro driving and just switch it with paper one when heading off road. How have you found your filter?

Really good I highly recommend them thats for sure and it might just be me but I have notice a bit more get up and go!

My only problem now is I have what can only be described as a hole in the exhaust. You can really here it when driving against a wall or something it's really really annoying and what I've seen it's a common problem and the only way to fix it is to change the exhaust system

Have you found yours is going better now ?

Yep. Definitely running better, feels like that tiny bit of resistance when u put foot down is gone. Haven't noticed massive fuel saving yet, but after service and filter I'm gonna put a full tank in and see if there's a difference either way I feel better about having a v6 and not a d4d for the time being. Just trying to come up with a reason to convince the minister of finance why I need extractors!!!!

Hi fellas, This thread just caught my eye. Thought i'd add something.
I'm running Pacemaker headers, 2 1/2 inch from 200cpsi cats through to a straight through muffler. No resonator on an '07 V6.
The cats are dearer due to the emmissions compliance. V6 have O2 sensors either side of the cats. Engine light WILL stay on if not correct. 200cpsi are no dramas though.

Runs quickers, louder and with ease. Some may get annoyed with the noise, my advice, start with engine end and head south. The muffler is what is going to make it loud. Get it opened up then decide last on a straight through muffler, it will be loud. Otherwise go a free flowing muffler, not straight through.

Anyway! I love it, goes much better then a standard system. Price $1600

                                Cheers
