Hi everyone, Ive been watching this forum for a while now as I recently bought a 2005 V6 auto GXL. Factory Bull bar and roof rack. Ive now done a couple of trips and have some comparisons. My first trip was from Cairns down to Mackay, then west to Middlemount. We then drove north to CT and then Townsville back to Cairns. I monitored the fuel economy based on how much was going in at the pump as I dont have a trip computer.. 2 adults 2 kids, full boot, to the roof. We avareged 14-15 L/100KM (used 98) which I thought was OK, but have seen better on here.
I have sinced cleaned the K&N air filter and MAF sensor as sugested on the site, and just completed a trip from Cairns to Rockhampton (1100K) and got 11.9L/100KM, generally 100-110KPH. Only myself travelling but a boot full of tools. Once I arrived I drove around, short trips, 570K and reached 15.8L/100KM. (95 Shell) I dont generally go light with the right foot.
What I was was wondering regarding fuel consuption, is when travelling at 100KPH on a generally flat part of the road, what is the rev counter showing. Mine at first was approx 2000rpm @ 100KPH. After reading an earlier postI have since inflated my tyres from 32psi to 38psi and seen a noticable drop to maybe 1800-1850rpm.
Would be intersting to see others.
Cheers

i read the post as they were very simialar... any way your r.p.m at 2000 is same as my ton( 100 ) chasing fuel.
/ savings myself , and as a new rig for you those figures are pretty healthy for a v6... thats my target around town 15/100 with a
work boot on both feet .. wink..

I also have approx 2000rpm at 100km/h (6 speed manual) - with tyres that are 265/65R17 (i.e. pretty much same diameter as originals)
The revs might change very slightly in an auto, depending on the tyre pressures, due to the rolling resistance of the tyres reducing, as the tyre is pumped up - maybe...Rob.

the last tank, i used 130l to do 690km.s around local runs,
it works out about 20l/100 thats not being light on the right foot either..
filled it up to the brim with "v power today and going for a drive tommorrow for a return trip of about, 600k's
first distance test with the k&n filter and new plugs,, not towing , just going for a run ,, cheers butane ..lets take her out for a spin... butane

After about 4 months ownership here are my average consumption figures:
City 15.5 lt per 100km
Highway 11.8 lt per 100km
Mix 13.5 lt per 100km
I don't drive for economy either. Playing with the scangauge I think you use more fuel by babying it to 100kmh rather then just putting the foot down (not full throtle but not hanging around either) and getting to 100 kmh quicker. Anyway thats my seat of the pants feel. Be interested to see if anyone has done any actual tests.
Car is 05 v6 with 5sp auto. Uses 95 octane. Standard grandtreks with Soverign bar, dual batteries.
Pretty happy with that coming from a CRD Patrol uses roughly the same but way more power and compared with the servicing costs the Prado beats it hands down.

with my 6 speed man, just went for a run inland 465 kays return trip , chasing a mate ,
generally 2oo kms of 110 freeway
about 165 kms of country tar
and the last 100 kays... ish.. of real nice dirt and gravel roads... used 78 litres of shell 98 v power.
works out about 16 ltr/100 .... stock v6 , k&n, and power plugs,,, both tanks full for the trip and no excess load , just fuel..
gave it a hard time on the dirt holding revs to the 3400 mark , and fed it hard for the exit of most of the dirt corners,,,
other than that, just normal highway driving, so confirmed that my v6 likes a drink but is a blast to drive.... cheers butane ..lets take her out for a spin... butane

Just completed a road trip from Alexandra Hills to Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Yamba, Lismore, Byron Bay and back home. 1350km at 10.15L/100km. I don't go too hard (cruising at 90-100km/hr), but I think that is pretty good for a 4 speed auto.2004,GXL V6 Auto. Thats bloody brilliant. I only just got those figures from my 1KZ in my 90 but only by keeping under 100 (closer to 90). Best I've had is 11.6 in my 5 speed auto (current V6) but admit I like to keep it write on the 110k some times a tad over (115) unless its double points then I keep it generally 5k under so as not to get pinged. I'm going to keep my'n at 100 or less this xmas just to try it out and see what I get. Generally I'm not worried if I use a tad more just because I want to sit on the speed limit but just for the hell of it I will try it and see if I achieve any better........We do the exact same trip every xmas, North coast and back and some running about in and out of town but generally the same run............Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. I find that keeping just under 100km/hr does the trick in getting good fuel consumption. Not sure if your run is the same as mine, we live in Redland City, east of Brisbane.2004,GXL V6 Auto. Thats good including towing. Im filling up on thursday ready for xmas, doing the usual trip up north but going to sit on 100k no more even in the 110 zone mainly due to the double point so not taking any chances. oing to be a killer as reserve (if you call it that) is empty and low light will be on by tuesday I reckon so Ill be like you and handing over the $200 mark well and truly, Im hoping the price stays where it is but thursday which is 1.32 per L...........Will see how much dearer the premium is.........Have a great xmas to you and your family if I dont speak to you again before then.............Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto.
