  • Just refilled after 700km with the Headers and exhaust. Mostly round town (short trips) but with 200km round trip to Harvey plus off-road round Harvey. Figure came out as 18.42 l/100k - not too bad considering but no better than I used to get. I was using 91 Octane and have now refilled with 98 to see how that goes - TeztinkV6Prado said it makes a big difference in his.

    • Hello Everyone, my first post!
I have owned my '04 120 Series Prado for about a year now. I went on a trip recently where I was getting 15.5ltr per 100kms. I run 95 octane fuel, have done since I bought it. I do have a heavy right foot, and did a lot of overtaking, so I suppose those figures are not too bad. I have an Ironman 4x4 snorkel fitted, with a K&N panel filter aswell. I service it regularly, and I use 5W30 oil. I am just about to head off to Qld on an approximately 7,000km round trip, moderatley loaded up, so I will be keeping a very close eye on my fuel consumption. Half way through the trip (Main reason I'm going to Qld) I will be getting a 2 & 3/4 exhaust system from the extractors back fitted, along with an ECU (Dual map - 91/98 Octane), iridium plugs, and an automatic transmission upgrade, all carried out by Bullet Cars. So, I will be extremely interested how it goes on the drive back!!!! And of course I'll be seeing how it goes fuel economy wise...!
      Cheers,
      Duncan

      • Hi there Duncan, welcome. Is there some one closer to home to get this done although I suppose possibly not around your area ?? Only reason I ask this is, if you have any troubles its a bloody long way to go back to get it sorted especially as your referring to playing with your computer as well. Also any possible issues with oxygen sensors and things. Same with transmission. Unfortunately things go wrong and you don't want to be half way through your trip and start having issues. Going by peoples responses from fitting up extractors and bigger exhaust etc on there V6's and including hilux's both here and other forums I cant see the extra value as no one has really raved about any better fuel economy (possibly some do it just for the sound I suppose) Anyway I hope all goes ok for you and you don't have any issues......Cheers Steve

        • Just back from a drive from Melb-Canberra-Sydney-Melb. Total of 1835.4kms travelled and 241.34 liters of 98 octane fuel. Over the moon with 13.15 l/100km figures (car fully loaded, 2" lift, T13 steel bar, A/C on the whole trip, plenty of right foot). Normally get 18-19 around town in peak hour. Going to be fitting a set of NGK Iridium plugs to it very soon, will be interesting to see if that makes any difference.

          • Recent Brisbane to Barrington Tops trip with a round trip of 1569kms which included a full day of Off Roading at the Tops returned me an average 12.3 l/100km (running 95 octane) Prado by no means was heavily loaded (unless you count my brother & I ) And I dare say the new Pio platform would have provided a small bit of extra drag, but overall I'm pretty happy with those figures.

            • I recently finished a 7,637km trip around central Australia (including crossing the Simpson Desert) and averaged 14.75 for the whole trip. Car was reasonably light with no trailer or roof rack but does have bar, dual batteries, fridge etc. Running slighly oversize ST Maxx at 265/75 R16 with a 2" lift.

              Route included all sorts of terrain as you can see here;

              http://www.zeemaps.com/view?group=60...34.637234&z=12

Overall happy with that as an average considering how much sand / off road stuff I did.

              • Last weekend saw a quick day trip to Coffs and am very happy with the fuel figures, 12.8 per hundred kays on 91 octane.Dont usually use anything other than 98 but at $1.81 per litre that was not going to happen. Had no load in the vehicle at all other than the usual gear, shelves, extra battery, roof rack.
Cleaned the excess oil of the airflow sensor that had come out of the K&N prior to the trip and changed the oil when i got home so now ready for the next run.
                Cheers

That makes me feel a little better.
14.9 for around the burbs (when I'm driving but 15.9 for SWMBO)
12 for Highway and around 19 when 2000kg towing.

                        • Hi guys, Just thought I would share my economy also...

On Petrol - I get 1000klm out of the two 90lt tanks. not sure what that works out to be but I think it is shocking.
On LPG - Loaded with family and camping gear 350klm/68lt tank. Just me 400klm /68lt tank. Both are 90% highway 10% city.

Not sure why so high on Prtrol but all I can say is if there wasn't LPG around I would have to sell it.

You don't give enough information to go on with the petrol but it sounds pretty good to me. If you used all of the petrol (180l) to do the 1000km then that's only 18l/100km - if you ran down until the low fuel warning light came on (150l) then that's 15l/100km which is pretty good.

Plugs? What? Is there something we should know..?

I haven't driven mine enough yet to get some figures, but I'm quite sure it will be using more than my '93 Celica. I'm happy with the amount of power from the V6.
