In stock form, city was 20 to 22l/100km, highways 14.2 to 16.38 km/100km, now that its remapped with revised timing, air-flow targets and AFR targets, its increased to 18.18 to 20.83 l/100km in city, and 12.82 to 14.3 l/100km on the highways. This is with full tank to full tank and GPS odometer. The onboard computer has a tendency to show about 10 to 20% on the optimistic side .
Here in bangalore, india, our city traffic is unlike whats down under, our average speeds are about 8 to 15kmph
With the cast iron 5VZ-FE 3.4 litre petrol motor, Prado point users used to say that the anti knock sensor took 5,000 km to adjust for a higher octane fuel change. Some later said that could not be true. But for my 1997 Prado which I bought new and still own, it was commonly said that if you increase the octane rating of the petrol (gasolene) then it will take 5,000 km for the change to be reflected in better fuel consumption. I have run mine on a minimum of 95 octane since about 2001, and I found back then that after several thousand km I did get much better fuel consumption. I presume that later series with the 5VZ-FE would react quicker to higher octane fuels. Using higher octane fuels will significantly improve fuel consumption with that engine in my experience, I recall from 20 to 30% improvement in economy by using all the time 95 octane. I am in Australia.
Just for interest sake plus the thread has not had a post since 20121.

Based in Perth and towed the 18ft x dual axle Coromal Seka 535 to Lancelin for a weeks holiday
Had to come back mid week for an appointment and left the caravan on site. Ducked back to Perth & back to Lano same day.
Filled to completely full before heading back at Coles Glengarry & took a reading.
Heavy peak hr traffic on Mitchell freeway nth, but once out of the city it was 100kmh speed limit all the way with some passing at 110-120kmh
On way back home late arvo towing the caravan in 4th gear into headwind all the way back to Perth averaging 90k/hr
Distance was not that far as total trip up & back was only 265km
Averaged 19.62 L/100 (coming back into headwind with the van going up hills the trans was kicking back 2 gears & revs up into the power band
I think that was pretty reasonable as driving into a headwind towing a caravan sucks & is a killer on fuel consumption
