    Which tank is which?

Can I assume the tank at the back is the main one and the passenger side is the sub tank? and how much fuel is in each one?
    cheers

      Re: Fuel Tank Setup?

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth.
On the 120 Series 2004 VX (Grande I beleive it is in Aus), I filled up yesterday under the following conditions.

90L light was on (running on second tank)
Gauge was half way between 1/4 and R
Onboard range stated I had 56km left
Filled up to the brim with 163.1 Litres (180L tank)
      Reserve light was NOT on.

This was just after arriving home from a long range drive. Did 740KM on the first tank, and total km's at time of fill was 1214km.
2004 VX V6 4.0 - Gold, 87L and 93L Tanks (13.6 L/100), 265/65 R16 Bridgestone, Toyota Nudge Bar, Toyota Tow Bar, the rest of the car is stock... for now.

        problem with the sub tank

        Dear All,
i have my 2.7 L prado mod 2006. it came with one tank. so i bought a used subtank and fixed in the car.
till now it doesn't deliver fuel to the main tank.
it doesn't have a pump but i guess it is working with pressure.
does anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?
detailed drawings will be a great help also.
also when i fuel the car it throw out suddenly fuel from the nozzle. so we have to make extremely slow...
        thanks

          Re: Fuel Tank Setup?

did u get the prado sub tank?
did u get it with all the hoses and extras?
as far as i understod from this post in the first page (although i can't clearly figure it out yet , hope i will one day) that there is some kind of a jet pump between the 2 tanks, maybe that could be the reason.
i saw a drawing of the fuel tanks with all the parts somewhere here but i can't remember where, yet i'm intersited in knowing how the fuel indicator is working ? ie how many fuel sendrs are there ? is it manged by the car computer?

              Re: Fuel Tank Setup?

Are the two tanks standard on the VX kzj120 models?

I've just bought a 05 Prado and will need to let it run down (which I never do) to find out.

Was reading this thread with great interest to give us an idea of range before fuel light comes on.
2003 120 V6 petrol, 4 SPD standard size HT tyres at 38psi, mainly city, metro freeway driving in WA. Twice I have now filled up and got to 1,080-1,100 km's before fuel light on. When and filled up both times at next available servo and found it added 150 Litres each time. So I guess the 30 L left once the fuel light comes on theory is true for us.
Ideally I would like to run it till it dies but wont do that with this car (used to do it with our old commodores, excel courtesy cars etc) I suspect repairing anything to do with these systems would cost a lot.
So 13.9 Litres per 100 km is a good average figure so I'm happy with that. I'm now going to alter my driving style to see what I can squeeze from it and this is the 2nd full tank of 98 I have run so hopefully the figures will get slightly better.

This is an old post, but i will post this for other people who might be interested.

There is no seperate "jet pump"

The main tank Fuel pump is different when there is a SUB tank installed.

There is an extra line that runs from the SUB tank to the MAIN tank's fuel pump, this is where the fuel is sucked from the sub tank into the main tank continuously until the sub tank is empty, and even then it just sucks air out of the sub tank.

So in addition to the Sub tank itself, and the different Filler neck etc, you need to get the Main Tank Fuel pump from a Prado which origonally had the Sub tank, you also need the line that runs between the two tanks, the vent line is longer and runs to a T piece where it joins the sub tank vent line, and finally the Charcoal canister is different.

If you have all that the tanks should fill and work as normal, syphoning until the sub tank is empty, and then using the fuel from the main tank.

The connectors should all be present to plug in the sub tank fuel sender, but i dont know what other electronics you will need to make the guage function correctly.
