    Hey Oceanrunner
Since you are the most recent member to post about the fitment of extractors what did the mod set you back?
How is the exhaust note now?
    Cheers Troy

Wow - that's cheap! Best I could get was $920, next cheapest was $1060 - two others were over $1400. Cheapest I could buy Pacemakers (not fitted) was $420.

          • So is the general consensus that just the extractors can give good enough bang for buck?

            My questions:

Has anyone also replaced the remainder of the exhaust system?
Is it necessary to replace the rest of the exhaust or just extractors?
Any noticeable change to exhaust note?

            Thanks!

            • Approx 12 months ago I had pacemakers fitted and am using 18-20 Lts 100km up from 13Lt. Replaced 02 sensors and no joy. Anyone have any ideas? Thx.

Well, assuming that you get 1 l/100km improvement in consumption - and that's a big assumption - and that the total cost is $1400, then you will break even in costs after 100,000 km !

I personally found that extractors increased consumption (on a FJ73 MWB landcruiser)

                    • getting wild cat (genie) extractors and a Y-pipe fitted to my 2004 4.0L GXL tomorrow from Russell at Windsor. I've got a performance box which measures 0-100, 1/4 mile etc etc. I'll try to do a before and after if there is somewhere suitable in 6am sydney traffic.

Firstly did the consumption increase immediately after fitting the Pacemakers or has it slowly increased to the current 18 -20 l/100 ?
There is no logical reason for the Pacemakers to increase consumption apart from poor installation/damage to other components at installation etc.
Conversely has your driving syle changed e.g. reving harder to listen to the exhaust note etc

My personal experience with Pacemakers has been a reduction in fuel consumption along with better mid range power, okay I have a 3.4 V6 (supercharged) but the design of the 4L V6 standard manifolds is shocking so the 4L V6 should have a even greater benefit from the pacemakers.

Re your fuel consumption have you checked the MAF, plugs etc as these are more likely to be your cause than the extractors.

                        • I have changed and cleaned everything you listed, the fuel increased straight away and my driving hasnt changed. I will be taking it to Toyota for the 160k service and if they cannot find a problem I might look at replacing the whole exhaust system.

                          • First thoughts: extractors/y pipe aren't noisy at all. Can actually barely tell they're installed except for an occasional raspy sound when you stick the boot in and it drops down a gear. I hate that noise but it only lasts a fraction of a second.

I didn't notice any difference in performance and the performance box agreed. It actually took 1 hr of thrashing just to match the 0-100 times I rattled off this morning before having the job done.

The car did seem to click through the gears quicker during normal driving and seem to power up a few small hills without dropping a gear.

I really only did this so I could tow a car trailer a little easier which I'll have a chance to test on Saturday.

To sum up....yet to see my money's worth.

                            More to follow

                            • no sign of improvement in towing ability.

Everyone that is claiming to 'feel' an improvement, have any of you measured anything to backup the claim? How many of you are running std airboxes with std air filters? I'm not totally annoyed yet because i'm waiting for my k&n filter to arrive for the std airbox. If i install that and still notice no improvement i'll be pi$$ed.

Also, car now has an engine warning light on. Popped up about 3 days after install.
