Extreme exhaust sound

i am thinking to replace my car exhaust since it's coming very old .




i check in the internet for nice muffler's with loud sound to install then i found device called exhaust cutout




i planing to install it on my Prado



any one tried this before or can this harm the engine

If that is what i think it is and it can handle extreme heat i reckon that would be a world fun!! Lol

The idea is when driving normal suburbia you run stock exhaust which gives good low down engine torque and is quiet of course!!

When you feel the need for high engine RPM and low exhaust back pressure you flip the switch and the valve opens then by-passes the stock exhaust and dumps the gases past the stock system. (Sounds "very" street "ILLEGAL"). Lol

I suppose you could fit a resonator on the end of the by-pass dump-pipe to tone it down a smidges and reduce backfire which would also reduce the odds of triggering a bush fire! Lol

PS As far as damaging the engine that is based on how much you plan on ringing the engines neck when you open the dump valve? Lol.

I've used a similar thing on a previous vehicle. worked alright.

I'd prefer an exhaust brake though... or a jake... mmm that'd make all those death rattle kids cry haha.

Not yet. I've been in the field all day.

I'm more interested in an exhaust brake. Not sure if the d4d valve train will enjoy it though.

Wooley are you thinking of a proper Jacobs style exhaust brake or a valve that closes off the exhaust? A Jacobs brake actually changes the operation of the exhaust valves and is a whole different (better) kettle of fish.

Well a Jacobs brake and an exhaust brake are very different things.

A Jacobs brake would be impossible due to them not developing one for the d4d. It would require a new head etc.

I'm talking about an exhaust brake just to shut off the exhaust and create some back pressure.

I'd suggest a jake brake would come on a bit strong on a small vehicle anyway making it almost useless unless it was only on a single cylinder.

OK, though Jakes usually operate on a couple of settings (numbers of cylinders). I have heard horror stories (don't know if true or not) about the flapper type exhaust thing. Exhaust leaks, carboning inside manifolds, turbos etc.

I wasn't referring to an exhaust brake at all??

I was referring to by-passing the standard exhaust to a straight through pipe by flipping the switch which in turn when the valve opens it redirects most of the exhaust gases through another pipe (straight through pipe) in-turn all exhaust pressure drops followed by allot of UN-baffled/UN-restricted exhaust gases

When you shut the valve off again it blocks the by-pass port and you are then running the stock standard exhaust system again and all is nice and quiet again! (Does not cause any carbon build-up at all!).

Hi performance cars use this method so they can get a more flexible torque band. (high torque on low engine rpm due to exhaust velocity) Then when the rpm builds-up the velocity of the gases is lost so you need a bigger bore exhaust system.... Hence the by-pass valve.

SWR we know, we were talking about something else. Ooops back OT. Bimodal exhausts are standard on a number of vehicles (from HSVs to AMGs etc) and are legal in Oz provided they are automatic. Bimodal is a very effective way of having a tuned exhaust that complies with the noise regulations but also gives flexibility to suit engine tune. There are options out there for manual systems / manual control (such as the suggested system) that wouldn't be legal. Probably not an issue for a 4wd or Tello since he is in the UEA.

it's illegal here in UAE the fine is 900 AED equal to 245 USD , also the vehicle will be impounded for a month.

,anyway i bought it and i will finish the installation today



this the best one i found because the bracket can be directly welded on the stock exhaust .

i will share the photos after installation .
