      Hi Jon,

Thanks for your help, I did see that Thread come up when I did a search, however only went on the first couple of pages and left. i have now gone right through and found what I was looking. We are both incorrect, It is actually a Sensor, straight off the Toyota WEB.

      Cheers,

        Gday TP Prado & Jon

Strictly following the wiring diagram for the (1GR-FE) the (W3 : Water Temp. Sensor) which has a grey plug and this plug has 2 x wires (Red with Blue trace = & a Brown wire).

This plug is on the right hand side of the engine at the back with you looking from the front of the rig.

Now this plug is situated in-between the two rear coil pack's called (Ignition Coil and Igniter No.6 & Ignition Coil and Igniter No.4).. These coil packs are what send a spark to the spark plugs of cyl's No 6 & 4. The back cyl on the right being No.6.

So once you have located these two coil pack's, some where in-between these two coil packs you should find the "Water Temp Sensor" (Not sendor or sender!) LMHO

Cut me some slack guys as i am only looking at a 1 x dimensional electrical diagram and i do not have a V6 to compare too and i have always referred to it as a sensor looking back on the other thread!

        2009 TOYOTA PRADO (GRJ120 = 1GRFE).

WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR = Part No: 89422-33030

        Engine coolant temp sensor:
        2.32 to 2.59K ohms @ 20cel
        0.310 to 0.326k ohms @ 80cel

        Hope the above helps

        Cheers

            Hi guys

Can someone actually confirm exactly where this "WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR" is as i explained as it shown it in one diagram as described in this link http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post372180

And when i looked at another wiring diagram it shows it as i described on the thread above? (Thread No:4)

Clarification to remove all confusion would be a piece of mined. (Mainly for me!)

This "WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR" location is specifically for the GRJ120 = 1GRFE V6 engine.

            Cheers

PS I have a prickely gut feeling that the temp sensor is not the problem but a confermation either way would be cool!

                  Gday Bear63

Where on the engine is that pic taken from?.... Is it at the back of the engine or in between cyl 6 & 4?

I don't have or know anyone with a V6 so having probs with visualising its location?

Wiring diagram for its location is misleading and no help but parts location on ToyoDIY definitely shows it at the rear of the engine.

                  Cheers

                    Hi Guy's,

Thanks for all the info and Pic's, I am replacing my Temp sensor on the weekend trying to eliminate a starting fault. I will update when I have done it and exact location.

                    Cheers,

                    Jason.

Its at the rear of the motor , if you stand on the drivers side and look at the rear of the motor you can see it easily in the middle , this one had the manifold off so it easier to see
I have another in the workshop today so i will take a photo of that one

Thanks for the confirmation on the sensor position as confusion has now been removed and we can now safely say that the Engine coolant temp sensor for the Prado (GRJ120 = 1GRFE V6) "is" at the back as i first described in this link below.

The only accurate thing i got from the electrical wiring diagram was the wire colours Lol

Grey plug and 2 x wires (Red with Blue trace = & a Brown wire).

                        Cheers

                              Hi Guys,

replaced the temp sensor on the weekend, easy enough done, reomve top engine cover, it is basicly at the back of the engine in the middle, you need a 19mm 1/2 drive deep socket to go over the sensor, 3/8 drive no good, remove the fuel return from the regulator valve and remove the sensor!!! Easy!!! however, it has not fixed my issue!! HELP!! the problem I have is that once the vehicle is hot and has been switched off for about 20 minutes or more, it cranks over about 6-8 time before it will fire, does not run rough but blows out a cloud of black smoke. Has anyone come across, I did see a similar fault in another thread but never had a fix or diagnosis.

                              Any suggestions would be great.

                              Cheers Jason.
