just wondering what oils people are running in there prados , the other part is whether people have used liqui moly oils or additives , seem the advertised a bit now but havent heard any reports about liqui moly ,
I use to run magnatec but the last change I have gone back to genuine toyota vvti oil due to a few comments a recent post about oils. Never had any issues with the magnatec but one of the comments was based on the fact that its meant to stick to engine internals for safer start ups but one point was well does that mean it holds any metal fragments with it ??? The only reason i went back to genuine. Who makes the genuine stuff ?? I wouldnt have a clue, hear different answers all the time to this question.....Regards Steve

Im running the Castrol RX Super in my D4D. I have also got a bottle of Liqui moly engine oil conditioner to try out on my next oil change in a few weeks time. I also use the Donaldson filter kits too.

i run castrol oils from front to back.. both diffs, man gearbox, transfer and engine all castrol
V6 vvti, 4.0l running "magnatec 40/15".. changed every 5k or less with new oil filter everytime
cheers butane.. 128K on the clock
I'm with Butane,
I go with Castrol oils front and back and also add Nulon G70 to the manual gear box. Look up the Castrol web site and click on the Lube Finder icon. From there just put in your vehicle specs and it lists the matching oils and quantities for your rig. As always though compare any product information against your Toyota manual to ensure correct application and viscosity.
Cheers,

.............and also add Nulon G70 to the manual gear box.............
Cheers,
next time i get around to checking the gearbox oil/level.. i will add something like this product , as i can feel the oil seems thick ..
when selecting gears when the box/ car is cold like local runs, but under open road or towing , once warm.. have no complaints,,
feels nice in the gear selection.. can evan rush 5th gear when box hot .{ with respect} . so i believe an additive would be a compliment to the castrol box oil... cheers butane

I have been using the Nulon range of oils and have been very happy with the running results. I even use their high end performance oil in my modified Nissan that I circuit race and have not had any issues under extreme conditions. I do change them in the 4WD's at no higher then 5K

i asked this question at the toyo dealer i bought the prado off... answer was at that time they where using a "castrol magnetec 40/15"..... love to know what the genuine oil is? i believe every dlr may stock bulk oil that is compliant to the oil spec..
cheers butane

At the end of the day you get what you pay for. I run full synthetic Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40. I don't bother with additives because the oil had a very good additive package already. Yes it's expensive, but I had a leak down test done recently on the V6, which showed > 1% leak down on the entire V bank at 230 000 + km. Pretty happy with these results.
