G'day Craig,
I've got engine light issues so I had mine put on Toyota's scan tool and it came up with an oxy sensor fault so i went investigating and got some prices, the post cat sensors I got for about $200 each and I could get the pre-cat sensors for about $150 each. You would want to be sure they need changing before throwing $$ at it I'd recon. Why do you think they may need to be changed?

My fuel economy has gone through the roof. Our latest effort was a tank of fuel to get from Nanutarra roadhouse to Karratha, 265km from the main tank! The weather was calm, towing the Jayco and sitting on 90kph. Have checked the van and car brakes, no issues there. Car runs fine, although a little sluggish both with and without the van on. Trying to avoid replacing as I know it's costly. I can't get the car plugged in to a diagnostic machine either in Karratha or Port Hedland. The only other issue may be a blocked fuel filter. Spark plugs are good, air filter and MAF sensors are clean.
Our next major stop is Broome in a couple of weeks, will look at getting it sorted there, or a trade-in will be on the cards for a diesel
im having the sensors checked next week which the test is costing $100 at the toyota dealer, Mine's using around 22-24/100 in the city and about 18-20 on the highway, only have 172,000kms
Model: 1998 GXL V6 - prado Petrol.
Filled the main tank 2 times now and not got more than 380-400km out of the 96 litres. NO toe load and no gear in the car, it's still stock so no extra weight. Keep you updated
You may have seen on another thread that the check engine light came on yesterday evening (got the headers and exhaust replaced the day before yesterday). According to my OBDII software it was code P2241 Oxygen Sensor low voltage. I cleared the fault and it hasn't come back so far.
Checking online, the fault code description is " Front Air/Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 1) IP Line Low Voltage".
Can't be happy about that Trekkie. Hopefully it can be cleared and all is good
Well, the bad news is the code came back again this arvo, I cleared it and it came back a short while later. Reading the actual data from the sensors it looks OK (both sides the same) - I'm going to have to check out all the connectors to see if they haven't been reconnected fully making it intermittent.
Any hints where to get sensors? Unbelievably all my gremlins seem to be coming to the surface now at the same time, so I am dubious that they are the sensors.
Worse problem - quote is $307 each sensor!!!
Any one else help with exactly where these sensors are located?

G'day Brooksy,
Be careful when ordering your oxy sensors, I recently purchased the 2 pre cat sensorsfor about $250 the pair, went to all the trouble of pulling one of them out to discover that it was the wrong plug yet it was the correct part number for the pre cat sensors. Before I lashed out and bought the other ones that the plug was the correct one for my car (had to take it in to compare on the screen at repco) turns out that he correct one for my car were double the price of the first ones and a bit more. I had to be sure of which sensor I needed so I had it hooked up to another scanner (Snap on one) and it came up with the post cat sensor on the right bank, much easier to change but shit hell expensive, I am now hopping on my right leg and have had to learn to write with my right hand.
In short the best advise I can give you is get it scanned by a non toyota scanner (snap on is awesome) to be sure to be sure to be sure, before you coff up the $$ and join the amputee's list.

I've had a quick look online and it seems ~$210 is the best price I can find. Mine is a 10/04 build, and it looks like it has the earlier o2 sensors (different length cable and plug connection). Toyota have told me it's the newer ones without looking at the car, but I suspect their blindly following the spare parts catalogue!

Well bit of an update on my scenario. Had the Prado into Minshull Mechanical here in Broome today to have my fuel dramas addressed, and came away pleasantly surprised. First up she was plugged into a Snap-on scan gauge tool, no faults, so a lengthy discussion followed that resulted in basically a full service. Spark plugs where checked and good, fuel filter replaced, transmission fluid replaced(burnt smell) with cooler fitted, brakes adjusted again ( due for replacement next service $$$$, along with park brake), engine oil and filter done, transmission filter also replaced and a couple of other minor things. The car now feels and drives like it used to ( all power is back), do a full tank of juice tomorrow and we'll see what happens. Great service from the guys and they knocked off an hours labour also for having the car ready for pickup so late (6pm).
Goes in for a wheel alignment and rotation Monday

That sounds great Craig, hopefully the fuel usage will be better now
Mine is booked back in to Sound exhausts on Tuesday to look at the Oxy sensor connections. I hope that cleaning the connectors and remaking them resolves the fault code problem.
