I'm sure you all can get them down there, but in case you have problems let me know. The Toyo dealership our club is out of has offered a discount on these. With the weak US dollar, It may even be at a bargain.

      Let me know.

You'd think with all of Toyota's squillions, they could have come up with a better name for their performance division, instead of something that abbreviates to: "Turd".

The FJ Cruiser has a TRD edition. Last year the vehicle was all black (including the roof as opposed to other FJ's). We affectionately call all 4 of them black TuRD's.

Unfortunately for those of us in the UAE, the local Toyota importer and dealer won't (at least officially) import the TRD blower for the 1GR engine. And according to on of my sources (who used to own a supercharged 3.4 Prado so might well know) the dealer doesn't have the necessary kit to flash the ECU.

Coupled with this, the annual vehicle inspection and registration process might result in a failure ticket. The local constabulary can sometimes take a very dim view of performance-enhancing accessories.

              True

The dealer in UAE is an a**-hole , anyways

A mate of mine just purchased a brand new LC200 and he wants to upgrade the wheels and the first thing they launched was "We will devalidate the warantty on the drive terrain and pullies and brakes as soon as you do so" , however we installed TRD 22" rims and confronted the dealer and his mainetanace manager that Totoya.com (USA) recommends this as an upgrade for Tundra and LC200 and it is still Toyota  He went Shut

I wish To opt my 1GR-FE with an extra 50HP but what about the suspension , do you recon that one should get a firmer suspension to cope with the Extra HP and enhance the Handling (Which I think is abrely on the dge as it is) - What you think my fellow Pradopointers 8)

A suspension upgrade is always a nice/essential thing to have (depending on who you talk to - me or the wife), particularly if you plan to use it on rough terrain, are carrying extra weight on the front (bullbar, winch etc), or adding extra herbs to the motor.

If you are doing all three, then it's gotta be a "must have" one would think.

Good luck with it - sounds like a great project. Keep us posted.

The missus just actually agreed to let me get a supercharger for the Prado????? WTF? On the proviso that we keep it for a couple more years and shelve the idea of getting a new Kluger. This could be interesting. I'll see what she says tommorrow as you know what women are like when it comes to letting their husbands spend money on things that are FUN!

                  Time will tell.

I would then be looking at the CAPA supercharger.

The TRD one if it blows a belt will NOT let you move the car, whereas the others will allow you to still drive up to about 100KPH.

I agree with TP on this.

Plus the CAPA unit would be so much more efficient than the TRD unit.

Heh, Racketsports, you could use the old chestnut that you are actually saving money by purchasing the CAPA Vortech unit rather than the TRD as you are getting more bang for your buck with the CAPA unit (I think)!! Everytime my wife comes home from shopping she always tells me how much money she saved by purchasing all this stuff that I reckon we didnt need. Might be time to turn the tables!!

I thought the engine belt was used to run both these types of superchargers and since the prado has only one belt that if it blew you wouldn't be able to drive anyway?

You might want to look at the bulletcar kit too racketsports, I got to drive a prado that had one fitted in perth and loved it.
I asked why he didn't go a vortech style charger since they have more power and he said the eaton charger? produced its peak power at a lower rpm which would be better for 4wding. Does anyone here know if thats right?

I am pretty sure that the CAPA kit has an ancillary belt... Not too sure...

Even if it had a longer belt, most would carry a spare or the standard belt as a spare which would bypass the blower and get you going again.

A spare belt should be part of a spares kit to carry if you are away from civilisation.

My Vortech style has full boost at 2400 RPM, the tyres start screaming 200 RPM later. Thats low enough for me as its right in the max torque point.
Most blowers have a belt running off an ancillary, only cetain kits run an engine belt to the blower and they have a smaller sized belt which is more prone to breaking...

The blower belt alone is about 130 bucks.
