  • Newbie LPG advice please!

    Hi,

Could fellow owners kindly share their experiences/wisdom regarding LPG conversions for a year 2004 Petrol V6 4Ltr Prado Grande.

    It has done approx 60,000Kms.

Lately I am using this as a commuter with lots of start stop city traffic and would like to battle rising fuel costs.

I would appreciate feedback from owners who have installed an LPG system.

    Thanks
    Tax

90 liters rear petrol tank goes out and replaced by 68 to 75liters (Usable)
LPG tank. So you loose about 20 liters capacity... So what??

70 liters using LPG cost $35, 70 liters of petrol cost more than $100,
        so do your own sums

good info guys but what is actual economy ie i have enquired with an installer and he suggests 17 lt to 100km depending on computer management type/set up on gas and around 14 lt per 100km on petrol. I guess the bottom line is how long will the system (in kms) will take to pay itself off before financial benefit is realised. thanks Neal

Those fuel figures you are suggesting are more for standard type system - not the Vaporased Gas Injection one. With Injection system the fuell consumption will be higher up to about 10%. So 14lt on petrol is around 15.5 liters on LPG...

You need to do about 35-40K km for the system to pay for itself. I did
            20000km in 6 months....

              Cost?

              lc120,

Are you able to share with fellow board members what the cost of install for your LPG system was?

I do in excess of 30K a year and spend around $130 a week in petrol costs. The dash meter gives me a read of 14.1L/100km on petrol.

              Thanks

                Tax,

The injected system I got cost $3800 with Flash Lube kit. It takes 2 days
                to install.

If you factor in the $2K grant from the Government, a Vapour Sequential Injection system is quite attractive if you do a lot of kms a year. I reckon that with a dual fuel Prado V6, it's possible to cross the Simpson Desert easily on a full tank of gas and a full tank of petrol.

If you shop at Coles or Safeway, the 4c discount docket for fuel makes more of an impact on a litre of gas at 47 cents than a ltre of petrol at 1.20 cents.

The running costs will be lower than a diesel due to the cost of the fuel, and the engine will run cleaner too, as LPG is just cleaner burning.

I've also heard good things about the Tartarini system on the Prados.

The most important thing is to find a good LPG installer.
