  • Guys, I'm considering a LPG conversion with JTG System from Auto Gas Injection-Frankston VIC. I got few questions and also any advice from the PPs who have done the conversion would be very helpful...
    1. What's the biggest tank you could fit without any mods?
    2. Is this a Dual Fuel sytem or dedicated LPG system ? (Is the remaining fuel tank useless?)

Also If anyone can post some pics of how the tank sits in the rear, that would be great...

    • hi shan,
i am using the JTG system from lpg warehouse..it is a liquid injection system.
my tank size is 58 litres useable. i have had the system for 2 years and done
50000 km's...had minor issues in the beginning (fuel gauge and pump)..since then
it has been trouble free...i cannot feel any diference in power and the economy is about the same as petrol.
mine was of the first to use the JTG liquid system...
for pictures look at post 162......

      • Thanks for that Nick !! I was worried that the tank would look horrible in the rear... But seems like they are mounting the original petrol tank guard to cover it... Brilliant

Also good to hear that it's running trouble free after the initial probs.. give me that little extra to go ahead and do it... I bought my Prado after 2 years of driving a corolla, so not use to $200 + fill-ups.

        • the gas conversion has allowed me to run a big
4wd with the economy of a corolla (money wise)....
especially when petrol is $1.41 a litre compared to 57.9 for lpg...
the only thing i have found is when towing the economy worsens..
last weekend i was at strockton beach and my econmy was 31litres per 100,
          i also have a holden cruze with 58 litres i do about 500km's at $1.41 that is $81.00 .
with the prado i do about 380kms at 57.9cents is $33.50..that is cheap..

            • Got the job done Last Week but only drove it today...(was in Rocky). I'm pretty happy with the results so far.
Have to take the car for a second tuning after 1000KMs and can't notice any difference in performance, noise & etc except it takes bit longer to start-up.
Anyone experience this with their LPG systems?

                • Does anyone have trouble adjusting their Flash Lube? I can't get it to deliver the right amount. I go from using 400ml in 200-300km to using nothing at all within the most minute turn of the adjusting screw. Have I just got a dud or do other's have this trouble.

Does it do any damage to the engine or injectors when delivering too much of the Flash Lube oil? I get clouds of white smoke from time to time when starting up or accelerating when the Flash Lube is delivering too much.

I've had the LPG sine 2008 and love the economy, however my fuel consumption is up from 20l/100km when originally fitted, to 25l/100km now. This is inner city driving, unladen. The car has noticeably lost power. I'm booking it in for it's 120,000km service and will get it checked over.

                    • Hi Nick,
I find my bottle empties in a couple hundred Kms if I set to one drop every 5 seconds.
I called Flash Lube today and spoke to one of their technicians, who was very helpful. My erratic usage of the Flash Lube oil is due to how we use the Prado. The Flash Lube delivery relies on vacuum in the manifold. The vacuum is highest at idle and lowest at full throttle. We do a lot of inner city stop start driving, so the Flash Lube is operating at high vacuum for much of the time. In this situation I can afford to reduce the rate of delivery at idle to achieve the recommended dosage of 1ml per litre of gas. When we hit the highway it appears to hardly use the Flash Lube oil due to the lower vacuum in the manifold at a more constant open throttle setting. The advice is to adjust the Flash Lube delivery according to the style of driving. Not really practical, but that’s how it is.
The good news is the puffs of white smoke I’ve experienced are due to over consumption, which doesn’t damage the engine. They now have an electronic pump kit which takes a signal from one of the injectors to determine the RPM and so control the delivery of the Flash Lube oil. I’m thinking about fitting so I don’t have to bother with constant adjustments.

                      • hi Jezz,
i too had the same situation.(.but never worried about it)...when my wife used to work close to home and take the kids to school the bottle emptied quickly and i was getting puffs of smoke.
now that she works at Eastern creek and travels on the m5 and m7 the bottle last longer... but the starting still takes longer...

                        • I've got my 2004 VX booked in for an Airrod LPG system install for after Easter. Looking forward to a successful conversion and a decrease in daily running costs! I've only had this truck for a few months and I am happy with it so far.

Quoted total cost is $4200. It's easier for us to pay that up front rather than the higher fuel bill (compared to my last car 12L/ 100Km) at 18L/ 100km each fortnight.

Now to lock in some weekend trips and get my monies worth!

                          • 12000km later, and the Prado had an intermittent shudder and rough idle when on LPG. disappeared on petrol. It felt like the engine was being starved of fuel. Book it in for an LPG service where they flushed the system ($140) and now works perfectly again. The mechanic said a waxy build up over 10000km causes clogging of the LPG injectors and interferes with the flow of the fuel. They suggested just waiting till next time it starts to play up and service/flush it out again. Sounds okay to me! Still happy with the conversion but less happy with the recent rise in mean LPG price (70-80c/L).

                            • Hi fellas,

Just thought I would let anyone know who is planning on putting their vehicle on LPG the issue I had. By all means do it, it is great and a lot cheaper to run. I got mine done with the best Prims (bosch) liquid injection system, the only issue was that the mechanic connected one of the wires to the crank angle sensor instead of the Cam angle sensor. Prims told him that there was an issue with 1 vehicle that had it attached to the cam angle sensor that when it was kicked hard it would sometimes switch to petrol. So they told him to attached mine to the CASensor instead. It ran fine but keeping the car at around 1500RPM while driving would cause the engine light to come on on the dash and therefore also turn off the VSC too. He thought there was a problem with the sensor so he changed it, but still had the problem.

So if you are getting your vehicle put on gas ask the mechanic to put the wire to the cam angle sensor and not the Crank angle sensor, it will save you a lot of hassles coming back.

as I posted on the other thread now getting 350klm/68ltr tank loaded with family and camping gear, 400klm/tank just me.

                              • Has anyone got a problem with their fuel guage always showing much less than is in the tank since converting to LPG? My fuel gauge shows the correct amount when I fill it, but then the gauge continues to drop all the time? It really shits me :<
