  • Fuel Injection Service

My Petrol Prado is going in tomorrow for a 40,000 service. Quoted $600 less small pensioner discount.

The Dealer rang today & spoke to my wife & they strongly recommend a fuel injection service at a cost of $99.

This is not in the Service Book and I am a layman on these things.

Is this service necessary? What does it involve? I would be very interested an any feedback.

    Thanks, Willy

    Re: Fuel Injection Service

I am quite happy to be corrected but normally this is simply a bottle of goo that the dealer pours into the fuel tank. You can do this yourself for a lot less than $99. I suspect there will be a few responses here that will tell you what to put in, when, where you can get it and how much it costs. I have been offered this on my diesels in the past and always refuse. If the engine is not showing any blocked injector symptoms such as poor idle, poor fuel economy, rough acceleration, smoking, etc give it a miss is my opinion. If you do have those symptoms it could easily (and more likely) be a dirty airflow sensor and injector goo wont help that. Also too many jars of goo is bad for the engine because this stuff is usually a solvent.

By the way the last time a dealer told me this sort of story (with my 90 series) I asked him to show me where it says in the book it is mandatory. After some embarassing moments the guy finally admitted that it is recommended by the dealership rather than required by Toyota. That was also the last time I went to that dealership...

      Re: Fuel Injection Service

For what it's worth, I don't accept the "fuel injector" service. I don't really know what they actually do. I generally use high octane petrol so I've formed the view that the fuel injector service by the dealer is not required.

Have a read of my posts on this link

I finally got a letter from dealer to the effect that any damage caused by fluid used in injector service would be covered by them.
Toyota refused to give me any such assurance.
