my written off 2009 gxl prado

my gxl prado 120 just got swamped yesterday by flooding, the car has been declared a write off, but heres the problem i have put 16000 dollars worth of gear in the car , the things on my policy were only the arb bullbar,ipf spottys , and safari snorkel, i can not claim these items back, so i have to some how salvage the gear, do not know what to do, have spent alot of money on this prado, does anybody know of a 2009 gxl for sale with about 40,000 kms deisel automatic silver, it would be a great help to me if anybody can help me out if they know what usually happens with a write off, as i dont want a replacement 150 series

Can you buy it back from the insurer? If its less than 16k then you are ahead I would of thought, buy a bog stock 120, swap the gear and sell the wreck.

Just a thought.

What stuff do you want out of it?

My Prado was declared a write-off last year after getting swamped on the Birdsville track. When the Insurance company advised me it was a write off (took about two weeks!!) they said I should go and remove any personal gear from the car before they collected it. I asked for 24 hours to which they were more than okay and then removed as much of the gear as possible that was not on my insurance policy. This included roofracks, UHF radio, electric brake controller, dual batteries, phone antenna, etc. The stuff on the policy I left. No one seemed to have any problems with this approach.
Hope this helps and bad luck on the accident. I replaced my 2005 GXL Prado with a 2008 GXL Prado - also struggled with the move to a 150 as I love the 120!

thanks so much guys for all your replys , its very annoying to see whats gonna happen, they have now rang me to say that they are going to get the car checked to see if it can be repaired , my policy states that thier repairs are all got lifetime guarantee on there repairs , i would prefer that they repair the car but i dont want any come backs with my prado, after all the electrics got WET!!!! , my policy also states that i am entitled to a new car if my car is less than 2 years old, which it is, but i want a 2009 gxl 120 series not a 150, so i hope they replace the same model with all my extras i had on that car, not replace them with other equipment, or replace the car with the same model and kms and give me back my bullbar ,winch , and snorkel , plus my cooper tyres that cost me 2000 , its just a waiting game now!

Not wanting to sound like I don't care or feel sympatheic to your loss but: you lot have had all that flooding around 3-4 weeks ago and NOW your Prado gets swamped?

I would have thought you would have taken some preventative action from allowing that to happen?

Ok then no worries , well find out tomorrow what happens to my 120 , chances are there going to replace all the carpet and wiring , hopefuly I have no come backs with electrics!

I have had a similar situation with a written off commodore (stolen and used for a ram raid). With the insurance company involved, any of the additions not listed on the insurance papers, were able to be taken off.. The only tricky part was, we had to fork it out of their yard (crash repairer), because they did not allow outsiders to work on any vehicle on their premises.
