hello all ! New to Prado and some quick q's !

Just wants to say hi to everyone here !

I have just purchased a 08/06 built prado grande with 55k on the clock second hand from a toyota dealer in melbourne and cannot wait to pick it up ! Is there anything in particular i should REALLY look at prior to taking delivery? i am getting a RACV check on it also regardless of what the dealer said.

Pretty stock, cept for the toyota tow bar, read dvd. I had them add on rear park sensors and the integrated reverse camera in the rearview mirror unit.

I have been doing alot of research into the difference between the MY06 and the MY07 ( post oct 06 build ) prados, there seems to be a major revamp of the diesel range but not of the petrol (Esp the Grande) range except for the addition of the Optitron dash. Can anyone confirm that?

I intend to fit an ARB bullbar, IPF HID driving lights, and upgrade to a VMS unit in the near future, anyone have any words of wisdom to a newbie 4wd owner? My other current cars and pervious cars have all been more sports orientated...

Welcome to the forum and congatulations on your purchase of the Prado. I'm sure you will gain as much knowledge from this forum as I have. in Sept 2007 i believe,

Grandes got these upgrades:

Bluetooth headunit
Updated woodgrain trim
MP3 Auxilary Input located in glovebox
Reverse camera as standard
Darker "greyer" wheels
Darker Headlights
Darker Grille.

in your situation i believe your car has the mp3 headunit and 5spd auto transmission !

Everything else has been same from 2003, sept 2004 the prado came with 5spd autos for petrol, 2006 d4d came out with 5 spd auto and mp3 capability, sept 07 - sept 09 same updates above except 09's get the fancy chrome on the window sills.

G'day and congrats on joining the prado community! The only point I can make is regards the rear sensors, we found that they can be a bit sensitive and go "off" for no real reason,also as read elsewhere on pradopoint they can be annoying when towing. As we also have the reversing camera I disconnected the sensors and read here that if you have the camera you don't really need the sensors, which made sense to me and now no more annoying beeps!! Enjoy tour new drive, I"m confident you will.

Thanks so much for the info and the answer to those nibbling questions I had !

I test drove pretty much all the recent and current 4 wds on offer and only really found the 120/150 prado to my liking I chose a 120 because I can't justify taking a brand new 150 outback and pretty much scratching it up straight away!

I don't think in should be towing much cept putting a bike rack on so I guess then Id just have to put up with the screeching when reversing !!

I pretty much decided to go for a vms unit so I guess will solve my lack of Bluetooth and aux in

I been doing some research into bullbar/driving light and will post up qs in the relevant section !!

Any other advice would be greatly Appreciated !!

Welcome to the forum, It this is your first 4wd and you have little or no 4wd experience I highly recommend doing a 4wd course or two. I believe there are some good places in Melbourne and its surrounds

yep, i have been looking into some 4wd courses around melbourne, there are a few on regularly and i'd be looking at joining a club eventually too i guess!

the following is what i am intending to pop on to my new baby over the next few months starting with the first

1) VMS in dash nav system 7500 series - most likely through a dealer/installer in moorabbin, melbourne
2) ARB Safari Bar
3) Hella Predator High Boost XGD driving lights

might look into a snorkel and UHF set down the track too!

Hi Icefire. You guys are sooooo lucky over there. 4WD heaven! If we so much as drive on the beach here, the fun police have your guts for garters. Short of joining a serious mud scramble type club, we are down to shiny day tours or out to a mates farm. We are coming over to enjoy one of your adventure 4WD tours next year and a Qld holiday this year. Prado heaven. What a great country. Enjoy your new toy Boss. Cheers.
