current lease due to expire shortly, (subaru Lib 3R)

I will be looking at the prado GXL Diesel undecided on manual or auto.

    3-4 year lease.

Travel aprox 50-55 k per year.

Looking to do more touring than play, (desert, to medium off road) have the RR for play.

every one seems to be reasonably happy with their prado.

    regards
    Michael.

    HSV Rangie,
    Welcome to Pradopoint.

As you observed there are not many unhappy Prado owners.

I'm sure you would be more than happy with the 5 speed auto D4D.
(Great Auto & I would suggest better in sand)
You had best think about placing you order as the waiting list is growing.

It sounds like you have a great toy. Does the Rangie have a 5 litre V8?
(I still class the early Range Rovers as one of the best off road vehicles)

    Cheers

RR has 5.7 HSV 215 ex vs GTS new crate engine. now churning out about 250 KW.

debating on the manual /auto as I do a lot of city and peak hour driving.

      Michael.

I have the automatic (6/07 build) and it is a pleasure to drive.

Very quiet and changes gears smoothly.

          Michael,
A 5.7 ltr 250 KW engine would certainly kick the Rangie along just a little bit.

          Prado debate.
If you do a lot of city peak hour driving, "what's the choice". Unless you need the exercise your left leg. "My vote Auto"

          Decisions, Decisions.

Given the choice, I would never go back to a manual.

          Cheers,
          Fazza

I bought a manual as I have never seen the point of having an auto 4X4. I am now doing a lot of driving in Sydney and feeling the pain of not having auto and having to change gear six times. My next one will be auto.

Sometimes, I wonder how people drive manuals to/from work. The joy of driving a manual is in open road driving... if you're doing a lot of city driving, the decision is really a no brainer - for me anyhow (says he with the 500bhp M6 Commodore with h/duty clutch).

Good luck on your purchase. I love everything about the Prado... and I'm yet to own one!

I love my manual after test driving auto's I was not that happy with them, but the manual was great. At the end of the day I think it come down to what you like driving.

I went Auto in the holden as it can take more power stock than the manual (so some say?)
I have been pumping between 560-620 HP thru mine for a few months without issues.
Be buggered if I wanted a heavy clutch pedal ever again, Our work 4x4's have HD clutches and we had to modify the hydraulics to just be able to push them in!

I'm with Jacto - having previously only ever had manuals, I'll never buy one again.

The Prado's 5 speed autobox and gated shift is a bloody beauty and represents the best of both worlds.
