  • HELP A/P T messege

i had a Garmin GVN 52 (black box ) that i took out after removing the center consul and the glove compartment ,

i then added a front camera and got the wires through the right diaphragm (left side steering prado), of course i did all that while my battery was disconnected and the shift lock button was pressed to move the stick away for space , i then returned every thing back and made sure about all the connections, i hocked the battery back on and turned the car on , a message on the dashboard was (A/P T) on and when i shift my car to Drive its not moving , even if i shift it to reverse again not moving , i tested the fuse boxes and all were ok ,

i did some search online and found other car forums with something mentioned about a connector above the break paddle , but its connected and secure , i took it all out again and looked around if i managed to do some damage that i didn't notice , but everything was ok and secure . i'm just puzzled

need some help and really appreciated

I would recommend you crack open the guide book that came with your vehicle and have a look and see what it says in there. Don't have my Prado here at the moment so can't tell you what it means.

well the manual says "Unengaged in park"
and another page says " shift four-wheel drive control leaver out of "N"
and i tried that , car moves when its in L or H , but not when in N (i'm talking about the 4wd shifter)

That sounds about right. When you range selector is in neutral then there is no gear selection at the transfer case and no drive to the drive shaft hence your issue. When you drive around normally you would be in high range with the center diff unlocked. When you go on direct/sand, etc... you would probably by in high range with the centre diff locked. When in rocky terrain, steep climbs, etc... then you would be in low range with the centre diff locked where you need lots of torque but slow speed.

Just like Piggy I googled A/P T and found nothing. I thought maybe you had typed it wrong and that it should be A/T P with the A/T being Automatic Transmission maybe. No idea what A/T P. The T could be for Transfer.

            Re: HELP A/P T messege

It would be a warning !!! Having the high and low range lever in neutral means there is nothing stopping your vehicle from rolling if hand brake isnt applied even if its in park. I know other vehicles I have had (4wd's) if the transfer case is in neutral even if the manual gearbox is say in first or reverse the vehicle would still roll, more or less puting everything in neutral. Bit different with the auto I suppose as it will still roll anyway once out of park but maybe its warning you to put the transfer case in either high or low so when you put it in park and jump out without the handbrake on the vehicle will still be in the same spot you left it, not down the street resting against a pole lol. Not real sure the neccesity of having neutral in the the transfer case but obviously there for a reason. Sounds like everything is working how it should in what you have described, Is the light still on now or has it gone off ?? Regards Steve

                Re: HELP A/P T messege

Not sure what you mean ?? They are AWD and depending on the set up of the transfer lever it will either have to be in 4H which is every day driving, depending on set up the next step is either 4HL on the transfer lever or you will have a centre diff lock button, eg the prado i have now (120 GXL) has 4H, 4HL, N,LL (4h everyday driving, 4HL power is 50/50 high range,N neutral (wont go anywhere), 4LL low range locked 50/50 .......If you have centre diff lock button like my old prado did it will have 4H, N 4L on the transfer lever and then you will have a button either on the right hand side under vent if its a 95 series, or if a 120 series it will be up in front of auto lever to the left of the 12V power output, by pushing this button wether vehicle is in 4H, or 4L it will lock the centre diff sending power out 50/50. So you have the vehicle in 4H, centre diff lock button off or not in 4HL, no extra lights on dash or is it displaying some thing on dash ?? Dont forget if you have had it in 4HL or have knocked the centre diff lock button it may require you to reverse up a bit then go forward for a bit before light will go out indicating it is no longer locked !!!!!!!!!!

                  Re: HELP A/P T messege

Steve, he has a 2007 VX which I believe only has H, N and L on the range selector and has a seperate button for the center diff lock.

Regadless of the setup of your vehicle "dark_black", the range selector (as you called it 4wd selector) MUST be in either H or L for the vehcile to drive. If not you will never go anywhere by any pother means than someone pushing or the vehicle rolling or another vehicle towing. The neutral position of this gear will completely isolate the drive shaft from the motor. You don't need to go to any dealer you just need to put it into H. With the centre diff open (button not pushed) your vehjicle will act as an AWD. With the centre diff button pushed you will be in true 4wd drive.
