    All

I am sick of the external panels on the doors rattling. I have been told that some of the clips that hold the panels onto the doors have broken.
Has anyone else had this happen and how easy is it to replace them? Can the clips be purchased from Toyota or is there a better way of doing it?

    Cheers
    Andrew

    Re: door parts rattling

If you are talking about the outside door trims best of luck working out which clips are broken... There are 3 different coloured clips which all are in different shapes and in different positions on the door trims... orange, blue and grey I think...

I was lucky working out which one was broken coz the broken half was inside the door when I pulled off the inside door skin! I needed the orange one! The spare parts bloke at toyota was pretty helpful but was about $4.50 a clip from memory!

    Best of luck

yeah thats the ones, the outside skins on teh doors to match the flare on the wheel arches.
Perhaps I need to take the inside of the door off and see if I can see what is broken. How did you go about replacing the broken ones?
Do the panels just pull off and hope you don't break any other clips while pulling it off?

So I managed to repair the mouldings over the weekend.

I bit the bullet and just bought a full new set of clips for each door, cost $30 a door.
I amanged to get teh panels off and found 2 broken clips and a broken bracket on each door.

I decided I would just replace all clips and keep the ones that hadn't broken as spares. I glued up the broken bracket and added some foam tape to the door panels where I could see they had been rattling.

I am now pleased to say the annoying rattling has gone

you know I was the same, you can get most of the clips off by removing the interior door trim, or you just close your eyes and pull until they come off, mine was 50/50 removed some from the inside and then closed eyes and pulled the rest off, some broke some came out cleanly. I replaced all the clips and kept the old ones for spares.

Has anyone tried plastic welding the brackets back on. I glued mine but several of the brackets are broken again. Looking for a better way.

What sort of glue did you use. I've found 2 part marine epoxy to be very good at reattaching broken brackets etc. My rear bumper is near 100% held on by reattached lugs which all sheared of when the other half had an accident. Repair was done some years back and it hasn't failed.

You can get small tins at any decent marine supply outlet.
