  • Got a snorkel - how do you test it safely

Hi, how does one test a next snorkel installation without driving through deep water and seeing if your diesel engine gets destroyed?

I have read you can hold a piece of paper to the intake and see if it holds it up via suction. Is that a good test?

    thanks

I have been been concerned about this as well and would also like to know how it can be tested.

not sure of the potential effects for damage if you're starving your engine of air, but i thought the ultimate test was to put a plastic bag over the snorkel and if the car stalls then you've got a solid installation.

its probably better to take the snorkel head off before you do that. if it is air tight, you may end up with a broken snorkel head.

also, there is the little small particle rubber drainage thingy on the bottom of the air box, make sure you dont suck that inside out as well.

i would just put my hand over the top of the snorkel opening, and it the engine drops RPM, then i would hazard a guess that it was pretty sealed.

Piece of paper over the intake works a treat. If it holds, you are good to go. You will hear the engine rev a little as it sucks. I wouldn't think there are any effects, given you only have the paper up there for a split second?

The snorkel installation instructions recommend testing it with a plastic bag over the intake....so it's probably a good method.
