how did you link camera to gps? any chance of a step by step on this? i have 2005 grande with sat nav and have no idea how to link it to that. i was fitting a separate screen just for the reverse camera. mr toyota told me it would cost near on $1000 to have one done by them. so if there is an easy method of what to connect where they are making some seriously easy money considering the cost of a camera and the cables.

how far approx does the camera go into the bumper? is yours fixed from behind to secure it? if so whats the easiest way to go about this? it would look much better with the camera lens sitting flush with the bumper. i didnt know how much room there was from the bumper skin itself and the towbar that runs up behind it. i was going to try pull some bits off just to get a look in there. thanks very much. all advice is very appreciated

ps - what is your location? its not on your avatar, cheers mick

thanks pedro. being fitted where it is, does it effect the light shining onto the number plate? also being off centre to the prado, how is it when hitching up? i was also worried that i would lose some of the vision for the area more to the drivers side, but then gain better vision of the area to the passenger side, if i fitted it too far off centre. thanks mick

i fitted my little wide angle cam above the number plate between the lights. i can angle it down towards the towball so you can just see it when hitching. not problems with it being off set either.

its connected to the Kenwood headunit.

8608 - is your camera a swivel mounted unit so it can be moved up/down and left/right, or is it fixed where it is shown in the photo, thanks mick

the camera has a small metal bracket which is fixed to the number plate holder by two screws. it is soft enough to bend and position, but strong enough not to snap or move by itself. it might move if you aim the pressure washer directly at it close range.

ok, resurrecting this thread with a slightly different direction if thats ok.....

what type camera is suitable for back of a 120? is it pal/ntsc (or whatever it is??) or something else?

i did have a camera and mirror (packaged together as a unit) i bought that worked when i tested it, but some low life pest control a...hole that came and baited my house for rats STOLE IT from out of my garage, and i have no idea what type it was. so i dont know where to start.

i now want to connect a camera into the grande gps unit (2005 model) not a clip on mirror like i originally bought. i have been looking the ebay direction and not sure what to buy. or am i better off going to some local store, and if so please point me in the right direction. What or who do i look up in the yellow pages to buy from locally? i am guessing dick smith and jaycar etc are out if the picture or are they? i did do search (5 times different wording) but not found what i need, Thank you

I fitted mine, (Jacar), just above and to the left of the tow bar, Mounted through the plastic bumper. I use it mainly to assist in backing up to the trailer. I find that I prefer the mirrors when reversing into a parking spot and use the camera as a second opinion. The model I got has a screen that is supposed to fit over the rear view mirror, a dumb idea as it needs to be removed after use because it is not a good mirror. I mounted the screen down in front of the cigy lighter as I don't smoke.
Just for your amusement, when I purchased the camera unit and it was sitting comfortably in it's box in the passenger seat, I promptly reversed into a bollard as I was leaving Jacar. The only other time I hit something when I reversed is when I forgot to check the camera.
                        Cheers

Mick..I came across this thread some time ago:http://www.lcool.org/technical/120_s...ra/camera.html
I've a kid coming soon and I've a very nasty driveway so I need to do something in the future.

Was going to link it to my Hema GPS ..then I found the above..not sure I'll do it though..looks a bit complex..may just stick to the Hema and the AV in and out cables.

I'll keep a look out on this thread in the future..its amazing how frequent kid strikes are!!! Charles
