Grande Strange Noise When on Brakes

Ok, 2003 Grande.
When you hit the brakes and the car pitches nose down, bum up, I get a "duga duga duga duga" sound from the back end.
Sounds like a modulation valve or similar??
Does it at other times like downhill uneven corner when pitching and rolling, low speed braking or just when lightly on the brakes at low speed.
Seems to have something to do with when the rear lifts under brakes.
Its done it since I bought the car.
Any ideas?
Im thinking something to do with the auto leveling airbag suspension maybe????
It stops as soon as the rear settles.
Anybody else get the same sort of noise?
Should I be worried or do others with Grande hear the same thing?

hav'nt experienced this on mine (04 Grande). I will try when I get home & listen a little more closely although it certainly isnt obvious.. What setting / level have you got the airbags set to...

Its on the standard height setting.
The noise is quite obvious in mine when everything is quite, no traffic, stereo off etc.
Even from 20klm/h, get on the brakes and you can hear something in the rear making that noise until it settles to level.
Stability control maybe????

Yep. Happens on mine but I only notice on hard braking. Complained to the dealer and they tell me that the sound will go away when the fuel tank is nearly empty. Never got to prove their theory, so just put up with it. I started a thread here on PP.

From their reaction Im assuming its normal?
Air bags, brakes, stability control?

Sounds like the noise mine makes on an ABS or Traction activation.. Only ever noticed it maybe 3 times a year when rear bumps a roundabout or similar.

How much is your nose pitching down during braking? Maybe shocks are r**ted letting it dive and upset everything?

Excellent. Thats what I like to hear to justify the suspension and lift kit upgrade

Seriously though, how do I quantify the amount of pitch?

It seems more noticeable at low speed, but maybe thats because there is less ambient noise.

Toyota says that it is a common problem and hos got something to do with the level of fuel in the fuel tank.
Well, with new springs on and the car sittiing flatter going around corners, it should make an improvement with pitching during braking. Will try out heavy braking today although I'm down to 50L of fuel. So will try today and again in the enxt few days when I fill up.

Their saying it does it when the tank IS full.

I spoke to the dealer and the first thing he came up with is exactly the same story.
To do with the fuel tank breather baffle when the tank is more than half full.

I might try a pop in to see them tomorrow and let them have a listen.
Let you know what they say.

Im at 3/4 which is where Toyota guys told me its worst.
I get the "duga duga duga duga" sound, braking, accelerating and even turning out of my driveway, all at low speed.!!!
Suppose Id better get used to it!

Im going to drop in to see the dealer for them to actually have a look instead of an over the phone diagnosis.
Its whenever the rear goes up or down at a slowish rate.
Slow as opposed to hitting a bump that is.
