G'day all , The pressure plate on my 2008 3.0 litre turbo diesel has let go and I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a heavy duty aftermarket clutch thats not too stiff on the pedal . Toyota want just under $1300.00 for their clutch (kit) which is supplied as individual parts as they dont make a complete kit for 2008, 6 speed manual as yet apparently . Any help would be much appeciated . Kind regards

As a follow up on the clutch woe's . Australian Clutch services in Adelaide have replacement kits superior to the standard Toyota one's . They claim they're standard clutch is about 20% stonger (quote- $959.00) and that they're heavy duty one is about 40% stronger(quote-$1140.00) . I've ordered the Heavy Duty . Toyota will still fit these clutches for you( quoted 4hrs labour $440.00 , plus , $140.00 to skim flywheel ) Be sure when ordering replacement to specify that clutch is to suit the D4D engine as they are a different part number to the old 3.0 litre donk . Try 'EXEDY ' clutches as they make several different clutches depending on usage.03 Grande, V6 AUTO.Red Metallic, Sovereign bar,Narva driving lights, GME uhf.

My 06 D4D clutch let go at 80K and cost me around $1300 to fix, apparently got a bell housing full of mud that got past the seals, then the service manager said to me "oh you've been four wheel driving" doh! I tried everywhere to get a heavier duty clutch and there was nothing around so had to go the Toyota way; Exedy had nothing at all for the 6 speed. I have done a similar amount of K's on the replacement clutch and starting to look around for a heavier clutch now, so hopefully there is a good replacement out there.06 GXL D4D, 6spd, Snorkel, ARB bar, XS900 50w HID lights, 55W HID Headlight upgrades, T/bar, 7" GPS, QStarz data logger, 52L Bushman Fridge, Premier winch, Sandgrabbas, GME TX3440, AE4705 antenna, Scangauge II, Dual Batteries, Aero bars & rack, Drawers, 2" Ironman/Rancho/King lift, Under bonnet compressor, Black ducks, Voltage booster, Rear table, AVE TPMS,

Keep in mind that the majority of reasons that a clutch system fails will not be changed by fitting a 'heavy duty' clutch.
EG: If you get bogged and muddy water is above your gearbox then the bellhousing will fill with water and a HD will suffer the same fate as a std one. (its not sealed as in a gearbox is sealed but is shielded and if its hot and was to be covered with water then it would suck past the seals anyway). If you drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal they will wear the same. If you shock the clutch by dumping it all the time then you may damage the diaprham or springs just as you would a std clutch.
IMO the only reason you would fit a HD clutch is if you are towing near the max rate for the vehicle and the standard one slipped under load. Otherwise they are not needed and you may cause damage to other components.
The majority of clutches I have changed on fleet seemed to be down to a pressure plate failure (spring or diaprham) or a worn clutch plate.2009 120 V6 Auto. 265/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armours. Bilsteins and Kings Springs.

Car has only done 100 000kms and we picked it up with 40k on the clock.
No wonder it had the burnt/slipping smell while towing but was ok around town...
