  • Rear Tailgate dropping

Hello, Can anyone tell me about any issues with rear tailgates on the 120 series? I felt the rear tailgate door wasnt closing smoothly and noticed the inner seam split and coming apart, down where the bottom hinge bolts to the rear. (Im guessing it was of the weight of the spare wheel)... Is this a common problem or just a one off with this Prado.. 2003 Grande

it happened to me with my 2008 GXL just this year. The end result was that Toyota replaced the door under warranty. That's a brief explanation and leaves out the drama along the way.

It has been previously reported on this site - do a search.

Not everyone is tech savvy enough to find the information they need. Let's not forget that this forum is here for people to share and ask questions.

Here's one such thread I was able to find:

Jatbula, if you know of others let us know.

I had numerous problems with my 120 series but put it down to constantly traveling down the Gibb River road and gravel roads on a daily basis. The wheel is too heavy for the door and this kind of travel, mine had to be replaced twice. If I could change anything on my new Prado it would be the to take the spare wheel off the back door.

Toyo do manufacture a Prado for some other markets without the spare on the rear door but then I don't know whether those models can carry the fuel load that we have.
