AHAHAHAAH Some of that made me laugh
Yes Myn can be put into low range with out center diff lock (hence why i only noticed that it was in low range cause it was revving high in drive)
I have a thing about putting the car in N then putting the handbrake on then putting it in park so there is no weight on the transmission, It could have been easily shifted into Low range then by accident
now i think about it my 80 series didn't have a low range light just a CDL light (engaged automatically with low range)
thanks now i know that i just have to look if its in low range

WOW. You are probably the only other person I know that does this. I've been doing this ever since I first started driving. The worst sound/feeling is getting an automatic car out of park and you can just hear the gearbox disengage park with that loud clunk sound. That's painful and not only that, after a while, you can feel that the gearbox isn't as tight as it used to be if you keep doing it (first hand experience after driving a mate's car every now and then).

Na I have always done it as well and I tought my wife to do it as well. Same as using the handbrake, I only use it when parked on a slope either way as I hate the cable been stretched for nothing when its in park and on flat ground, why use the handbrake ?? what fore ?? Both our cars are locked away on flat ground so no need for handbrake, but our neighbour who has a kluger makes me shudder when ever Im out the front. She always reverses up her drive, fairly steep to (fair enough) but just throws it in park then takes her foot off the brake. all the weight is transfered to the auto box then she puts the foot hand brake on. Then when its time to take off again its BANG as she yanks it out of park. Been doing it for 5 years now no damage yet but still makes me shudder evertime, will have to show my wife this post, she thinks Im the only one anal enough to worry about a clunk when taking out of park............Face lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet
