  • A/C Recirculate Default

I have had a trawl through the other AC questions without any clues, forgive me if this one has been covered.

I have just noticed the that A/C in my 07 with "Climate Contol" keeps reverting to recirculate when ever I turn the car off, regardless of what setting it is when I switch off. As I am trying to eliminate a lingering smoke smell I would like to pump as much fresh through as I can and keep forgetting to check to swap it back. Interestingly, the manual even says for "Best results" when using the A/C on both Auto and Manual Mode, to use FRESH.

    Cheers

The idea is that if the difference between the outside temperature and the temperature you've set on the climate control is more than 5 degrees celcius, then the system switches to Recirc automatically when you turn on the ignition, whether or not you are on the "Auto" setting, because it mistakenly assumes that the interior temperature will be less than the "hot" exterior temperature. (Maybe in Japan this is the case?)

It is doing this so that the A/C works most efficiently...even if you haven't put the A/C on...

Pity that in Australia, it is almost always the case that the exterior temperature is LESS than the interior temperature if you've been sitting in the sun...

Thanks for that Rob....one of those thing that unfortunately actually makes quite a lot of sense from the efficiency point of view...as you say though, the logic kind of falls over if you have been in the sun! You would think though that they could set it so it samples the interior air temp too though, the climate control obviously does this when it is working. Quirk to add to the "Live With" list I guess!
