  • Computer: Fuel Consumption

My HIGHWAY FUEL CONSUMPTION is typically 11.0 - 11.5 L/100km, measured full tank to full tank
But the computer consistently over-estimates fuel consumption by about 15%. Also, the computer's estimated range shortly after filling both tanks is never more than 1000km - this is then a vicious 18 L/100km at best! Does anyone else have the same computer problems?

Have you had any check engine lights recently?

Interesting. Trip computers usually calculate fuel consumption based on the information it receives from various sensors (ie. air flow meter, a/f sensor, o2 sensor, injector + speed typically). It should definitely indicate more than 1000km estimated range after filling up with 180L. Have you tried resetting your ECU by removing the +ve battery terminal and holding your foot on the brake pedal for 30 seconds then reconnecting?

I reset the computer. Funny - the range now reflects a reasonable distance after filling up (i.e. about 1500km), but the consumption in l/100km is still overestimating by the original error...
